The verses say one thing, the Org says it means something entirely different.

(Matthew 24:34) "Truly I say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things happen."

w14 1/15 p. 31 par. 15 - "We understand that in mentioning "this generation," Jesus was referring to two groups of anointed Christians. The first group was on hand in 1914..."

(Matthew 28:18) "Jesus approached and spoke to them, saying: "All authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth."

w12 8/1 p. 17 - When did Jesus become King? God enthroned Jesus as King in heaven in 1914, exactly 2,520 years after Jerusalem’s destruction. Jesus’ first act as King was to expel Satan and his demons from heaven.

(John 5:28, 29) "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment."

g 1/10 p. 11 - those resurrected to life on earth will be judged "according to their deeds" during Judgment Day.

    Don't you know by now?

The Bible doesn't mean what it says, it means what the WTS says it means.

They ought to change the title of their study book: What Do We Say the Bible Really Teaches?

Pretty soon they're just gonna ditch this Jesus dude and NWT altogether, the GB is taking over. Replace literature with appropriate titles:

    What does the GB enforce?

Anthony Morris - Tight Pants, Spandex, and the Homo Agenda

The New Light Translation (New verses every week!)

Does the GB care about you? (One page leaflet, front has the question, back has in bold "NO!")

(Follow up tract) Does the GB care about your money? (Resounding YES!)

I would say it's a misunderstanding of demonstrative pronouns rather than tense.

"This" refers to something near at hand in space or time.

"That" refers to something farther removed from the speaker.

The JW's goto scripture used to justify their current explanation is Exodus 1:6

"Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died.."

...which is spoken from the perspective of someone looking backwards many years into the past.

That's not what Jesus was doing though. He said, "This generation" which indicates something manifest at the time he was speaking.

Excellent points, when the scriptures clearly say "has" and "did" the WT insists on placing these statements as being fulfilled in the future.

These are examples of how they are still hung up on the type/anti-type nonsense of Russell, Rutherford and Second Adventists.

So that's their problem, they are bad at grammar!

We reviewed: It was a cult ... and IT STILL IT!

I always had a problem with their explanation of John 5:28,29. If their explanation is right, then "those who did good things to a resurrection of life" should be "those who do good things to a resurrection of life". They make the Scriptures say what they want them to. They massage them to make them fit their doctrine.

“But where the Bible is silent, we must be silent,” said Brother Splane.

Except when we decide to make up BorgSpeak.
