after the recent awake dealing with gambling(still with NO biblical reason not to) I still feel that gambling in moderation is fine. I know in the "flock" book gambling is not the sin, greed is. it also says that we should try not to see gambling for entertainment as good, however it does not come out and say "dont gamble or you will be in trouble". the recent mag dealt with addictive gambling and trying to show you how bad it COULD GET if you went crazy ; which we all know is not good for anyone or their family, similar to TOO much alcohol, too much materialism, too much eating, etc. so i ask...... any elders, or others have any experience with dealing with brothers about gambling? such as going to vegas and blowing a few hundred... The way i have seen it and have heard, even some elder's sons have thrown down a few bucks on a cruise or on a business trip .... any info would help

    thanks

I just returned from 3 days in Las Vegas, where I played the slots everyday, and had a BLAST!! It was so much fun. I've never done it to the extent I did this time. I lost a lot of money, but it was entertainment and very fun. The first day I was actually $60 ahead, but lost it very fast, trying to make it more.

I was next to a man who put $10 in a nickel machine and won $500 by the time he quit. When I tried the machine, a few hours later, it wasn't paying. Oh well. It was still fun.

I was at a convention for one of my suppliers, but had a couple hours a day to play. No regrets.

One of the reasons that they give for not gambling is that it fosters a spirit of getting something for nothing at the expense of others.

Hmmmmm. Of course, that same thing applies to the FDS who run their factories on voluntary slave labor.

I've asked this question over and over and over again: why is it okay to lose a hundred grand in the stock market, but you're not supposed to go to the corner store and spend one lousy dollar on a lottery ticket?

The answers I get are PATHETIC:

Gambling is trying to get rich without having to work for it (but putting all your $$$ in Yahoo! in the early 90s wasn't?)

You're profiting from someone else's loss (ya, every time I get a job)

You're asking the God of Good Luck to smile down upon you (every time I get on Hwy 401)

You're taking unnecessary risks (ya, baby!!!)

Anyhoo, I don't pay any attention to their crap, but a few weeks ago on the Super 7, I had 5 of the 7 numbers and was one number off on each of the other two. I won a lousy $142.70, piss me off........I didn't REALLY need that $2,500,000 did I???

Every time I go to Vegas, I usually gambe around 10-30 dollars on quarter, nickel and occasionally dollar slots for fun.

Yes, gambling is much like celebrating birthdays, twisted scripture. But then again those are only two glaring examples with the Witlesses, there are many more.

My wife's great grandmother was DF'd for playing bingo at her retirement home, go figure.

That would have been fun. I would have had to stay another day though. That convention kept me sooooo busy.

The machines I like the best were Texas Tea, Cash Crop, and a fishing one..........can't remember the name. Something like "Throw me a line". There was another one about a party, that I liked too. All interactive games. Fun.

Gambling is OK according to the bible. After all, did'nt God have a bet with satan with the eternal life of Job as the stake?

If it is OK to gamble with a life then it surely must be OK to gamble with money, after all, God invented life, man invented money.

    Good one searcher,

I've never gotten into gambling. It seems like a waste of money, especially because I always lose.

Hey, I had the biggest win from a casino that no-one on this board can match!

But if you want me to tell you what it was, you will have to talk me into it.
