I just received this in the email:

    I was just researching
the net and i came across this link. it may interest you.
    http://www.rediff.com/news/1999/may/11gupta.htm

it is a report by an indian journalist on India's biggest website
(albeit the report is three years old). it documents the WTS as
being the largest recipient of foreign aid among all
    organsisations in India.

    US$1= Rupees 49.
    (Rs 1 million = US$21,000)
(Rs 17 million = US$ 357,000) and that is the official Govt of
India figure for just one quarter. And the WTS sacked nearly 400
sp pios in Dec 2000 citing lack of funds. (see the previous WTS
    India letters).

No of JWs in India 20,000. amazing

Very interesting. What do you guys make of it?

Financial scandal could be their undoing. Religion is so protected though, you wonder what inquiries could be made into their finances. Since they are non-profit, shouldn't there be an abundance of publically available information? Maybe on Edgar, the SEC's system.

Interesting. They're such a fine charitable organ-eye-zashun. I wonder if there is any way we can keep an eye on there desire to get more of the charity $$ that will be handed out to religious groups for good works in the U.S.? I understand that Bush is doing away with some programs and plans to give big bucks to religions to use. Is this something fairly recent or am I a victim of "old light"? Thanx.

As a religion, they can avoid filling out form 990 for non-profit, which leaves outsiders in the dust as to how the money is spent. I keep my finances for all to see at:

Obviously this religion has a lot to hide. I'm interested to see if they respond to your request. :-))

what is obviously just the WTS and/or individual JWs donating funds or assets to their own India Branch.

So I am at a loss here....if it is just one hand giving to another, why is it classified as *aid*?

Can one group offer itself *AID*? This may be a good way to avoid taxation, no?

    Some might even ask

isn't it a conspiracy to avoid paying their taxes.

This is complete nonsense. The source of the so-called foriegn aid is evidently the various religious organizations themselves that have offices and missionaries in India. So, if the Watchtower in New York, or some other branch office, sends money into India to support the work of Jehovah's Witnesses there, it is considered by India as foreign aid since it comes from a foreign source. / You Know

Since you all are talking about India. I found these scans of a letter sent by the WT to India right before the earthquake.

I have no idea what this is all about..
