So, you've read the Sunday paper, and it's time to 'put your feet up' with another fun poll.

    This weekend's topic is:

What have you changed since finding out the truth about 'the troof'?

    1. Handed in all my ties to the P.O.

    2. Put all my skirts in the charity bin. (Hell, why couldn't you wear pants to the KH?!!)

    3. Tried something 'forbidden'.

    4. Played with the kids at home on a Sunday morning.

    5. Wear my hair longer.

    6. Shaved my head.

    7. When buying a new dress, don't worry about the length/slits etc ("What will the elders think of me in this?")

    8. Got a tan.

    9. Don't feel guilty!

    10. Do kind deeds for others and don't record the time in my diary.

    11. Visited the nonJW relatives at Xmas. (Boy, were they surprised!)

    12. Can't say "Faithful & Discreet slave" without groaning.

    13. Kick the cat when someone says the word "organisation".

    14. Go on vacation and don't go to 'the meeting'.

    15. Don't find excuses to the elders when you return from vacation and tell them you didn't go the meetings.

    16. Don't make excuses at all.

    17. Not much.

    18. Any others?

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

So, you've read the Sunday paper,

I dont read papers. After all those "mind control" books I read, I see "brainwashing" in the Newspaper funnies!

and it's time to 'put your feet up'

You kidding? Its my kids Birthday and there are 12 screaming brats around here blowing party horns!

    Hi ozzie

    other half and self have done No's 3, (not telling you what ha ha) 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 14, plus
going away as many weekends as possible,
    having birthday parties,
going to boot fairs (they are always sat or sun mornings)
working late at work and not feeling guilty,
I suppose you could sum it up with "Living and not feeling guilty"

    My attitude.

I realized that the chances are good that I WILL get old, retire, and die, before seeing a 'rightous new order'.This makes you realise you need to plan for the future......something I NEVER did as a dub.

Quite so, Gumby! I find that it's a constant battle to have a changed attitude from one that was judgmental, to one in which we show that we should not be masters over others, but let God be the judge.

The dub world conditions its members to be so judgmental, whether it's in dress or conduct or actions or even status in the org.

How good to be free of that!

Most of those, except shaving my head and throwing away the neckties.

The best one is #9. That one alone is worth everything.

    Let's see:

    2,3,4,7,9,10,11,15,16

    Plus...

When I knock at a door now, I'm always hoping they're home because it's somebody I want to see

Subscribe only to magazines I'll actually read

Have friends who are Jewish, Protestant, Catholic, Pagan, Agnostic and atheist

Celebrate: Christmas, birthdays, Easter, Imbolc, Yule, Beltaine, the Solstices,-I've got lots of celebrating to make up for

Don't hide books that I'm afraid would be disapproved

Don't buy pantyhose by the gross (pun intended)

    Don't even own a "bookbag"

NEVER use the "S" word (submissive)

Don't have to start the day with the mini-lecture daily text (maybe that's why I'm STILL not a morning person)

Buy calendars without quotes from the Bible

Feel free to teach my kids to question everything-books, TV, newspapers, authority (except mine, of course...)

    Hey Oz!
It's taken years to change since I left the Empire.
One of the items on your list was about doing 'forbidden' things. When I left I was a 20 year old kid. So naturally I just went wild. That was just as much a bad thing as a good thing, looking back on it now.
Ten years after, I'm only now beginning to feel happy and free. The biggest change has taken the longest. And that one is the most important. To be happy with who I am regardless of what anyone else thinks of me.

    Mike.
