Religious people will always have an answer for why religion doesn't cause problems. It's like an alcoholic that will never admit they have a problem with alcohol.
A key reason why some atheists challenge religious beliefs

Most of the believers left. It seems atheists here are too zealous. You don't act rationally. I clearly see atheists acting in very irrational and dictatoral manners. Go bully someone else. You love to paint Christians as the most extreme people. Look at Chairman Mao and Lenin. It is not paradise. I believe in evolution. You don't seem to know any Christians besides the nuts. We exist. There is no conversation taking place. It also strikes me that this is particularly male behavior."

What is there to discuss? Band was indulging in one of her all too frequent rants. It is full if the usual canards. I think she has posted 2 or 3 similar diatribes in the past couple of days. She sees rational challenges to faith as attacks on free speech.
I have told her many times I will defend her right to believe and preach anything she wants but superstition doesn't get a free pass just because it is called "religion". She thinks that I think belief or unbelief is a matter of intelligence. It isn't.

BandOnTheRun, do you have any examples of people being bullied, or being verbally abused?
PEOPLE, that is, not gods or beings that they believe to exist.
Also, where has anyone said that Christians themselves are extreme?
If you don't back up what you are saying, you are building prejudice in the same way that you claim atheists are being prejudiced.. -

Cofty,
For goodness sake, grow up. As a human, this constant war is belitting both sides. No, elder or evagnelicl Christian nut will ever determine what I believe. There is a sickness about believing you are always right, whether it is the Witness, a wacko church, or atheism. Atheists, in general, do not act the way you do. Perhaps it is the Witness influence. Most of you remind of college freshman.
So Shelby had a silly way of recruiting. You are recruiting. What is the difference? Smashing people is not good form. I doubt if anyone here has ever wronged you. Take a higher ground. No one is saying don't believe in atheism. Krushev at the UN, banging his shoe.

Band on the Rant - I have run out of ways to explain it to you. I thought lawyers had a gift for grasping information quickly.
I am not recruiting anybody to anything.
I never discuss religion except in this forum. It is a religious discussion forum where ex and exiting JWs come to seek answers to big questions. I will never tell anybody what to believe, I can only present rational arguments and then its up to the individual to choose myths or reality. I challenge religious superstitions with facts and evidence. I will never stop doing that, so get used to it.
I suspect you are embarrassed your superstition doesn't fit well with your elitism, and you take it out on me. You are becoming increasingly shrill.

I don't see any evidence of that. Only a small handful of people like you are complaining of a 'war'. You are like a one man/woman army.

As for people 'recruiting' others to atheism, here is an interesting line of reasoning...
"Evangelistic religions like Christianity and Islam are always engaged in an effort to recruit new members — that's simply what they do. This effort typically involves explaining what the religion teaches and why these teachings are so good. When a person comes from such a background, it may seem natural to perceive analogous actions as stemming from the same motivations... some atheists do 'evangelize' in a way by promoting atheism.
Doing so, however, isn't part of an effort to recruit new members to a belief system. Instead, it's an effort to get people to give up beliefs or a belief system which an atheist considers false at the very least and likely harmful or even dangerous.
It's thus not analogous to a Republican trying to convince a Democrat to switch parties, but more analogous to an anarchist trying to convince a Democrat to stop supporting oppressive political parties and systems altogether."
