What would be a scientific description/explanation of what God is?

God is a story to explain that which we experience but do not understand. It has been told through all recorded history and has become part of clan culture. The things we do not understand (until we research) range from physical phenomenom such as lightning through to biochemical such as elation and love. Since some knowledge is violently uncomfortable and difficult to research (what happens when we die?) there is ample motivation for stories to continue and multiply.

In a more reductionist fashion we can also describe God as 'that which is more powerful than us.' We have historically elevated people to that status.

The gods you describe in the last sentence Qcmbr are varied and many, and of course are different in our minds than a Supreme Being.

The latter could only receive a "scientific description/explanation" if there were some proof for her existence, which there is not.

Another interesting question is, if she turned up claiming to be the Supreme Being, how would she actualy know that she was ? because she could not conceive of anyone greater than herself ? females like that have existed for millenia, but they were not really what they thought themselves to be.

Phizzy: But if 'she' came only "claiming" to be the Supreme being, and not able to 'state' I AM then 'she's bogus.
