Misao Okawa is officially the 9th oldest verified person ever. If she's still alive in 46 days she will become number 8...

For the last 4 years, 6 of the oldest pass away. This means that by the end of 2014 there may not be any more born before 1900.

According to U.S. Census, in 2010 there was 53,364 individuals older than 100 in USA. If USA is 5% of the world population, than the number of 100 years old worldwide would be over 1 million. However, USA together with Japan and Western Europe represents more than 1/3 of retirees world wide. Therefore, the number of elderly over 100 will be more or less around 250,000. By 2020, the number will increase by 5-7%. It is also crucial to mention that there was deep population depression between 1914-1920 as a result of WWI and Spanish flu which is/was visible on tree of life. Within next six years, majority of people born before 1914 will be dead. Statistic points that only 2% of people who are 100 will be alive within next five years.
