Removing DO's Will Be a Fatal Mistake

On the surface it would seem to be a disincentive for those who are "reaching out".

An ambitious young man might aspire to become an elder, then a CO, then, if he is a good-enough CO, he might one day become a DO.

Now it seems that CO is the "end of the line". There is less of a "career ladder".

If you were to go back in time 20 years, or even 10, could you imagine a JW world in which both missionaries and DOs were no more?

smiddy Arent jehovahs witnesses , the WTB&TS , on record criticzing christendom for pensioning off their clergy when they reach 70 ? the accepted year of retirement , saying words to the affect , that a true christian (JW ) never retires ? Their in the service until they die ?

Wow smiddy, that's an impressive memory you have there!

The quote you're thinking of was specific to the anointed.
The WT comment is comparing apples with oranges as usual, since even 'pensioned off' clergy can remain faithful until death - they are not pensioned off from living a Christian life. Anointed are also pensioned off from their jobs and even their congregation responsibilities if they get too old, but again it doesn't stop them leading Christian lives.

    *** w67 2/15 p. 118 par. 23 “From a Weak State . . . Made Powerful” ***
"Many individuals of the anointed remnant are now finishing their earthly course in faithfulness. Like Samson of old, they are fighters for God’s righteousness to the end, sharing to the full in the vindication of Jehovah’s great name. They do not look to be pensioned off, like Christendom’s clergy. Rather, they prove themselves “faithful even to death,” and so the promise is sure to them: “Happy are the dead who die in union with the Lord from this time onward . . . for the things they did go right with them.” "

    .

It's a valid point, Smiddy, but since when has risking blatant hypocrisy ever stopped WT from eventually doing precisely what it condemns in others????

Yes I think the Governing Body shot themselves in the foot on this one.

Because they are cheap and thrive off of very cheap labor costs and that is their big profit maker lets face it, cheap labor to go out and sell their magazines and their chief sales reps they are laying off because their usefulness for the corporation is not that of a younger man, represents a negative cash flow now so see ya and a pat on the back seems to be all they get from these cheapo CEOs/Governing Body.

Only a complete Idiot would want to make being a CO a career choice, let Jehovah boo hoo hoo all he wants in sadness because nobody in their right minds wants this job the only ones who make this as a career choice in this late point in time are the bottom of the barrel loonies. You got to be very stupid to join the ranks of CO starting from today, or after hearing this announcement.

Those COs that have many or few years to go before being sent out to pasture with his fellow former COs,, are probably very uncomfortable right now with Cognitive Dissonance caused by moments of honesty and the need to get something together because these guys on the Governing Body don't give a rat ass about you.

This will make no difference. This is exactly what happened last year within the corporation that employs me. We have branches (congregations) with managers (Presiding overseers or whatever they are called now). We then have regional type managers (circuit overseers) in charge of 10 or so branches and they combined had a manager (district overseer). We removed the last manager (district oveerseer) and in our area made him a one of those in charge of 10 or so branches (circuit overseer.) When the changes were first mentioned it was a big deal, but after a month most people forgot it even happened. The corporation now saves tons of money not having to pay the salary of these men and no one cares.

prologos - "A mistake because the now demoted, but trained and gifted, possibly ambitious, power addicted individual will react and ultimately rise to power again..."

Those kinds of circumstances usually spell the beginning of the end for small, ideology-driven authoritarian regimes, because those types of individuals are - in the vast majority of cases - notoriously incompetent.

These men and their wives invested the best years of their lives to rise through the ranks of this org. They will

now be assigned to Tumbleweed, Texas or some other God-forsaken area. What incentive do they have to continue

to "reach out"? These people will likely find their place in the congos as the wise, experienced sages although they will be looking for someone to help pay their light bill for their garage apartment. Sad outcome if you ask me.

The people that makeup COs and DOs (wives included) are all just disposible people who the GB figure they owe nothing to, because actions speak louder than words. These people put their trust in what the Governing Body wrote, gave up making an income and devoted themselves to the work the Governing Body assigned them and now they have grown old and are being treated like trash ready for the trash heap no longer of any use to the Faithful and Discreet Slave of God running God's earthly organization into oblivion! over a delusional fantacy about the end of the world and god giving them thrones to rule over the earth for a 1000 years.
