What do the Catholics & JWs have in common?

  While discussing the current state of affairs re: pedophilia in the Catholic Church with a friend, I started talking about the same situation within the JWs. She asked me, what do the two have in common that makes it possible for molestations to be covered up and denied? In short, what do they have in common that has allowed them to get away with it for so long?

  I could only come up with the following:

  (1) Exclusively male hierarchy
  (2) Situations in which it is considered normal for adult males to be in the company of children alone (Bible studies, etc)
  (3) Belief in the infallibility of the organization that keeps the victims from fighting back

  Any more ideas out there?

  You write this as if Pedophilia and it's cover up occur ONLY in the Catholic Church and the Organization. It happens in ALL religions. The Catholics get bad press because of their celibacy, and you know about the JW's because of your connection with this board. Children are molested in all religions fairly evenly across the board, unfortunately.

  “Catholic Guilt” is a phrase that we come across quite a bit; and that constant feeling is a common feature of people in the JW religion too.

  Or even that it is restricted to churches. I understand schools are another favorite place for pedos to work at.

  Basically your #1 and #2 above are major contributing factors.

  Even #3 is relevant. Up until recently, kids were taught from a very early age and throughout their childhood that adults were infallible period, which made reporting ANY such case difficult.

  Some parents still seem to teach this, and some religions support this. I think this is perhaps the stupidest thing you can teach a kid these days. No one is worthy of trust or respect until they prove it. No one ever has been, but the more tightly packed we become on this planet, the more of an issue this will become.

  The 21st century is a great place to be, but it's no place for the naive.

  When I finally jumped outta the "box" and started to analize the WTBTS, I concluded that they are nothing more then a shadow on the sidewalk to the Catholic Church, a distorted reflection of it. Sure, there are those conflicting and opposite views of doctrine and theology. Yet, WTBTS "mimicks" the actions of the Catholic Church.....from the frickin DARK AGES. It's something political about it, on social and clergy areas.

  I really can't put a finger on it, nor want to bore all of you with long winded explanation of mine. But to put it in terms; If the WTBTS was to look in to a murky mud puddle, it would see the Catholic Church as it's reflection.

  Incest is the big problem in the JWs more so than clergy laity acts.

  In 35 years I never heard of elders or ms molesting the flock until I came on this board. I am fully aware of cases of incest which were covered up.

  This is why the silentlambs which I have not taken too much time to read all the stories,but I also don't question the reliability of the stories.

  I understand the great wrong that ids felt with the on going cases in the Catholic situation.

  Is there an inordinate amount of pediphilia between the servants and the flock?

  Number 2 IS normal. Pedophillia is abnormal and WRONG, but you are not going to tell me that it's abnormal for an "adult male" to be "alone" in company with children. It IS normal. In fact it's ordinary. The problem is always a few sons of bitches that ruin what's normal. Xander hit it on the head. This crime is not limited to ANY religion. Or for that matter any subgroup at all. There are rotten bastards out there people, they are in the minority, but they are out there. We gotta deal with this, among other sad truths in this world. What I don't get is why it still is shocking when it involves a priest or a member of the JW"s. Or why it even matters. If it is getting covered up , 99 times out of 100, it is the parent whose to blame, for the cover up. All a parent has to do is go to the police. I defy anyone to argue that point with me. I know there are people who have been hurt out there. And I am truly sorry. But did anyone really think they were safe from this sort of thing because it was "Jehovah's Organization"; please.
