They went from monthly magazine printing:
4 x 32 page mags (128 pages)
2 x 32 page mags (64 pages)
2 x 16 page mags (32 pages)
This is just for the publicly distributed Watchtower and Awake. I think this is indeed "good news". The mags didn't carry much of value and a lot of JWs, let alone the public, didn't read them anyway.
@ doinmypart - Can you, or anyone on here, put dates on exactly when they reduced the amount of magazine pages?
Note that the figures below are made up, but something like this:
