I am listening to “ROAR” by Katy Perry right now . I listen to it several times a day as a pick me up. This song is so motivating and empowering. It closely represents my current journey gaining control back over my life since finding out TTATT .

I am always thinking about you all here on JWN and was thinking, how cool would it be to create a JWN Playlist?

What are you listening to right now? Or do you have a song that you would add to a JWN Playlist, motivational, fun or otherwise?

    “ROAR” lyrics below:

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath

Scared to rock the boat and make a mess

So I sat quietly, agreed politely

    I guess that I forgot I had a choice

I let you push me past the breaking point

I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up

    Already brushing off the dust

You hear my voice, your hear that sound

Like thunder, gonna shake your ground

You held me down, but I got up

Get ready cause I’ve had enough

I see it all, I see it now

[Chorus] I got the eye of the tiger, the fighter, dancing through the fire

Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR

    Louder, louder than a lion

Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR

Oh oh oh oh oh oh

    You’re gonna hear me roar

Now I’m floating like a butterfly

Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes

I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up

    Already brushing off the dust

You hear my voice, your hear that sound

Like thunder, gonna shake your ground

You held me down, but I got up

Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough I see it all,

    I see it now

[Chorus] I got the eye of the tiger, the fighter, dancing through the fire

‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR

    Louder, louder than a lion

‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR

Oh oh oh oh oh oh

    You’re gonna hear me roar

A devout JW might be keen on The Who's 'My Generation', especially the line 'I hope I die before I get old'. Of course the song also includes the line 'Why don't you all fade away?', which would be a good question to plant in their minds.

bemused - Good one! Generation is such a timeless song!

iCeltic – I like your playlist. Good variety. When you make your playlist do you list the artist and get a variety of their songs or do you list specific songs for each artist?

Seeing Bob Marley on your list reminds me of when I was a little kid. My uncle would always listen to him while playing on his congas in the middle of the living room. Songs like Buffalo Soldier, I Shot the Sheriff, Could You Be Loved and Jammin g come to mind.

Theredeemer – Great songs – all new to me except the Beastie Boys. The version I got in my internet search for Phoenix – Bankrupt came up as banned in my country for copyright, so now I’m determined to find a version I can listen to later when I get a little extra time.

    J. Hofer – Thanks for sharing, I’d never heard this one. Great the lyrics, I love them!

So, far here’s our playlist . I grabbed one from each individual list provided.

    1) Roar by Katy Perry – KiddingMe 2) Generation by The Who – bemused 3) Could You Be Loved by Bob Marley - iCeltic 4) Sea Change by Beck – Theredeemer 5) Hero by Family of the Year – J. Hofer

Beck's Sea Change was written when he and his fiance broke up. Every song goes in progression of the feelings you have when you end a relationship. I listened to this album and Arcade Fire's The Suburbs non stop during the time right after my divorce.

Also on my playlist I have Vampire Weekend-Vampire Weekend , and Flaming Lips-Yoshimi battles the pink robots A few Beatle Albums and Cafe Tacuba-Cuatro Caminos (a very good spanish alternative rock band).

The song I would suggest would be The Suburbs from Arcade Fire's the suburbs. I cried a little on this song because there is a line that says " Can you understand?why I want a daughter while Im still young. I want to hold her hand, show her some beauty before all the damage is done. And if its too much to ask, its too much to ask. then send me a son."

During my divorce I was also dealing with TTATT. I was leaving her and the religion. One of the reasons for me leaving her was that I wanted children so bad. She did not mostly because of the religion and she wanted me to be a CO or Regular Pioneer. Long story short this song and the album hit a nerve. This album is top 5 all time for me.

Theredeemer – You’ve opened up a can of worms. I love listening to songs with great lyrics , especially if I can relate to it or there’s a special story or meaning behind the lyrics. I'm going to check out the list and albums you mentioned.

I looked up the lyrics 1 st before listening Suburbs by Arcade Fire …and WOW what meaningful lyrics. I can see why this song would hit a nerve. I’m going to have to listen to the rest of the album. I had to add to the playlist.

    Thanks for sharing!

For me it's the brand new albums of Alter Bridge and Stryper

Tell me how it feels to live a lie
Tell me do you know that it won't ever be the same
You can't deny, the house of cards just hit the floor
Don't tell me you can save it in the end
    There's nothing you can do
'cause when it's gone, you know it won't come back again
    But you don't listen anymore

    You're addicted to pain
Too blind to see you're lost in the shadows
    Too addicted to face
In time you're gonna lose it all

If only I had said this long ago
If only I had found a way to tell you all the things you should've known
But you were lost right from the start
How the hell are you the one to blame?
You've done no wrong, you gave it all
So why the hell did you have to change?
You broke your back, she broke your heart

    You're addicted to pain
Too blind to see you're lost in the shadows
    Too addicted to face
In time you're gonna lose it all

    Cry out!
    You know it now!
    She sold you out!
    You're gonna lose it all!

    Cry out!
    You know it now!
    Just tear it down!
    You're gonna lose it all!

    [Solo]

    You're addicted to pain
Too blind to see you're lost in the shadows
    Too addicted to face
In time you're gonna lose it all

    You're addicted to pain
Sometimes it seems like nothing else matters
    You're too addicted to face
In time you're gonna lose it all

    Cry out!
    You know it now!
In time you're gonna lose it all
    Cry out!
    You know it now!
    You don't listen anymore

We’ve been adrift, upon the oceans
Trying to sift through our emotions
There’s no land in sight as we sail through the night
Looking for something to see – suddenly…

    (Chorus)
    We’re Saved By Love
    We’re Saved By Love

We can’t forget, what brought us this far
It’s heaven sent, beyond the big star
Just when we’re feeling that we’re going down
We can’t go on anymore – we’re restored

    (Chorus)
    We’re Saved By Love
    We’re Saved By Love

    (Bridge)
We can’t go on if we feel there’s no wrong
Hurting the ones that we need
When brothers and sisters are moving along
    Reaping and sowing the seed
Oh the one thing that we have that lights up the dark
And shows us what we need to see – look above
