    1. Rupert Murdoch is NOT about true freedom of information.

Rupert is about making money in anyunderhanded way he can.

    2. The concept of freedom of the press in the English speaking west is an illusion.

Few newspapers would have the balls to print a story that may lose them valuable advertising revenue.

    Profit comes first.

free press is not at risk, the only change is that genuine victims may have an appropriate chance of redress and those that abuse free press will face a level of punishment.

wish something like this was set up to redress the abuses by the GB.

It seems that some of you are unwilling to think more deeply about this issue. As the Guardian article makes clear, there are many news authorities that are upset and willing to fight this, not just one newspaper (even if the Guardian declares itself 'neutral').

In addition, the Cameron people have already tried to get an internet censorship program going - in the name of keeping pornography out of homes - but intended to include 'conspiracy sites'.

The British have had a wonderful record of press freedom. Sadly, that record may be under attack by an elite that wants to conceal its crimes and misrule.

I once was shocked by this site - in seeing some people that I had respect for utterly reject a citation/link I once made that happened to reference "Rense. com" - even though the article actually was simply aggregated there. They couldn't get past their prejudice. While the situation with the Daily Mail is more subtle, it is similar.

    Metatron:

Paul Craig Roberts, for one, (the author of "Reaganomics" in the 80's) is of the opinion that Western culture, including the freedoms that are at the core of Western Society, and the basic principles of which were mostly fought for and won in Britain, that they are collapsing before our very eyes.

There are a number of articles that espouse his views. For example:

    Here

    Here

    Here

    Here

    Here

And see here for a full list of his opinions. There are also numerous videos on Youtube wherein he is interviewed. It is interesting that on a number of those interviews he is being interviewed by people with very strong opinions, who often try to put words in his mouth.

Yet, P. C. Roberts main views seem well founded.

So, Metatron, I'm also of the view that we are in the final stages of Western dominance, and especially of the USA/UK, which together (not meaning equally or at the same time) have ruled over the enlightenment. The industrial revolution also parallels this time frame.

It was the treaty of Paris (1763) where Britain was officially recognized as the dominant global power. Somewhere towards the end of WWI, or some would say about WWII, that the US became the more dominant of the two.

Roberts had expected the Western powers, but especially the US/UK, to have diminished before this. He seems to have contented himself with the idea that the collapse of their dominance is inevitable, but he has stopped offering predictions since they have lasted somewhat longer than he thought possible. Yet he sees the steps they have taken to prolong their dominance as only solidifying the inevitability of their collapse.

Their fall from dominance will mark the end of a significant and unique period in human history. It doesn't surprise me that 'freedoms' are diminishing with them. Of course, those 'freedoms' were not granted to all that they dominated over.

I give the US dollar, which is the linchpin of US dominance, maybe 16 months, maybe less.

I've read articles about the dollar and China and reached certain conclusions.

The US isn't going bankrupt but it is headed for trouble.

The Chinese don't want the yuan to be the dominant currency because that would create too many problems for them. Instead, they want a basket of currencies to replace the dollar.

The US is stuck politically in large part because people can't wake up and realize that good jobs aren't coming back - ever. This is happening because automation is getting really good and the idea that folks will just find other good jobs doesn't pan out - as shown by the meager outcomes of job retraining generally. This leads to more food stamps, etc.

@metatron - You will get more UK people 'that think' onside with your arguments if you stop being lazy and find some alternative sources for the same story.

This article is slightly more intelligently written, but then the Guardian is a proper newspaper, not a hate-rag:

abaddon did your legwork for you.

The Daily Mail panders to the frightened aging blue collar 'it shouldn't be allowed' crowd - do you understand that? It is written to appeal to the very masses you claim are being hoodwinked with this and that conspiracy.

More possible motivation from the Guardian.

Anyone wonder how 'high' these crimes go? Or who has been rumored to be involved?
