OOH No-o-o Mother, How Could You?

I’ve just finished talking on the phone with my Mum. She’s a devout JW who is highly thought of by most other dubs, she’s on first name terms with the head Boyz ‘n Bethel too. For a lady dub she’s pretty high profile, has never, ever been counselled about anything in her entire life and would be astonished if anyone should ever attempt to do so. She is a Queen Dub, matriarchal and serene, she is pampered and respected by all her acquaintances. I am the only person in the whole wide world who occasionally has the temerity to bring her down to Earth.

Well, she has been very naughty indeed. She has been to a church service! I kid you not, her young dub friend recently lost her mother, and was terrified of attending the clergy led funeral service. So she asked my Mum what she should do. Mum leapt to the rescue and took said young lady dub along to the church service so as to give her some moral support.

When Mum told me about this just an hour ago, I pointed out to her that attending a church service was “an absolute no-no”, surely she realised that she shouldn’t have attended?

She replied that her attendance at the church service didn’t matter because she didn’t join in the singing of the hymns!

Now I have a feeling that she is well in line for an elder’s visit pretty soon. She has been doing a lot of what is OK in her eyes lately. She visits me every year for several days whilst accompanied by my DF’d kid brother – 2 DF’d sons for company – and the elders know this and have turned a blind eye to it.

Somehow, I think that she is going to be pulled up pretty hard for the things that she chooses to do, I really don’t think she has moved on with JW teachings for around 25 years or so. I think she sort of froze all new light out after the ‘75 fiasco, so she’s probably chosen to remain unaware of the WT’s increasingly obtrusive stance into people’s personal lives.

I think that when she gets her reprimands she will take it very hard indeed. Who knows, just maybe it will be enough for her to walk away in disgust from this bunch of yahoos who think that they are chosen by God.

    And wouldn’t that be grand?

    Hey E-man,

I don't think the elders will bother her. They are afraid she will put them on their collective ass. They will continue to hold pow-wows in the backroom with the other congo members, but not with her.

She has her own opinions and they pray she will keep them such. After all, she is just as capable of leading in the congo as any of the 'elder' younger men.

Remember, their authority is given by Jehovah. And what do we know him to be?

An angry and fiesty little tribal god who occasionally brings rain and thunder. Not much more than that.

So she is basically saying here, most of the JWs in attendance don't matter because we all know 90% of the singing at the KH is done by 10% of the attendees! LOL!

    Cello,

I used to think that too, but she is now involving other people in her ideas, especially young ones.

    Plus she goes dancing...!

E-man, you described my mother perfectly.

She ignores the dub rules she does not like and come to think of it, she does seem stuck in 1975.

When I sent her info from Silentlambs, she read it and said that there are many bad JW's and she is going to do things her way.

I asked if she were not afraid that they would come after her (again) and she said no. After what they did to her the last time (confessing to fornication; 1 time never to be repeated), she feels that they cannot touch her. (She got her DF'ing overturned; called and wrote the GB that she was sorry, and they were on a witch hunt)

The problem is that my mother choose to stay in, despite the actions of the elders. It is the whole "paradise" idea. She is convinced it will happen.

I hope your Mom comes out OK.

Maybe then they will figure out that she is onto something good, E-man. They too might start encouraging the young ones to go out dancing more!

But you can't be serious that she goes out dancing?

    How old is she?

    Hey, cello!

My [admittedly not a JW] 86 year old aunt goes out dancing, why not E-man's mum?!

As long as she does not start to question the org. she will be left alone.

I am happy for you and your family relationship. At least you are associating and tolerate each other.

    Now THAT IS FUNNY!!!

My mom (a devout JW) plunked a few nickles in the slots in Reno but said she found them on the floor so it didn't count as gambling.
