Yeah, I especially loved the "Jehovah-o-lantern" part, very very insightful of you, Terry! Altho', you could also have used "Jah-o-lantern", the Jah almost rhymes with Jack. But I loved it all the same, and the analogy was perfect.

Here's one too: Why are JWs always told to always act as models? Because models always have a plastic smile on!

Or: Why does the JW pioneer considers herself a model? Because she can maintain a fake smile for 24 hours if there was company!

I've noticed that the zeal newcomers have is rarely about showing off to other people, it's about being so thrilled to have 'made it' and found 'the truth' they're just talking about it to everyone and can't understand why people can't see it the way they do.

The first thing to be learned is that Christianity is entirely an invention of a few influential men.

The first three hundred years of the Christian movement MUST BE STUDIED to gain a perspective on the process.

Every so often through history somebody REINVENTS it. That reinvention gains popularity.

Christianity has always been a do it yourself project.

No two readers of the bible come away with the same clear thoughts. There is a reason for that. Too many different minds

tampered with it. Nobody can restore Early Christianity. Nobody.

Why? Because there were so many versions of Christianity in the early stages, that's why. Chalk and cheese.

OPINIONs. That is what the birth of Christianity was all about. Different ideas and opinions.

Followers got together and formed in-house discussion sessions and networked their way to a loose coalition.

Those early groups didn't agree with each other. There were fights.

    It is no different today.

A newbie is excited about something that exposes the cracks in the lie and then sticks around for somebody else's spackle.

There is man and there is man's idea of God. That is all there is.

    Choose your own adventure.

Terry is right on the button. as usual.....Trouble is that they still keep turning up, rain or shine at the meetings, still keep smiling and welcoming one another, still keep performing the ritual of field service....So what gives it away?

Perhaps it is the lacklustre ,bearly audible singing of the Kindom Songs (compare that with an evangelical church!)

Or the inability to discuss or want to talk about their beliefs,as distinct from their activities , when they are together socially

Or the deadpan, deadly boring meetings and the routine, uncreative, answers read as good as from the paragraphs [yawn]
