I know what train you refer to. The Circumvesuviana! We boarded it to visit Vesuvius, travel to Ercolano (Herculanium) and then take the bus. Somewhere interesting to go to, if you're fit, is to walk up the hill from Sorrento to Saint Agata and then continue to Termini, all via footpaths. It's worth it for the view over towards Capri.
