My opinion: No one will take as much trouble in making good investment decisions with your money as you. There is no substitute for doing your own DD.

And let's face it, 99% of managers can't even beat the indexes.

@Think - So are you able to just trade stocks for a few hours a day, and make a enough to live on or do you work too?

I'm an Operations Mgr in the oil industry. My schedule is work 7 days, then I'm off 7 days. So counting vacation time....I only work less than 6 months a year. I'm in a position where I can do some stock trading throughout the day, even when I work.

I'd suggest you consider, at least, the bogglehead approach.

But if you have a mortgage then pay it off first before you invest in anything else. Minimise debt.

I think you may be picking the wrong time to get into stocks. The correct time to buy is when everyone is selling. We are approaching a top and the market will "correct" (fall) before the DJIA hits 17,000.

It is always good to learn the rules of any game before you play it.

Go Away in May has not worked so far, I have a account with Goldman Sachs and this is the first time they have said to remain in place. Goldman Sachs has been correct, the reports from Facebook, Yelp, Tesla, Visa, Master Card, Black Rock, and the little companies working on "The Cloud" like BCOV along with all those home builders and suppiers Lumber Liquidators continue to make All-time-Highs. I should have bought JWN when the stock was down to $10 back in 2008-209 time frame.

Simon, last year Facebook had no revenue from their Mobiel Segment, this Conference Call Facbook said they had generated above $100,000,000 discrediting the rumors people are dumping facebook. Does BCOV has technology you are able to use to push JWN into the Cloud?

Trading sounds too scary for me, I would rather find a good concept stock like VRTX, BIIB, and my Visa and GGP and keep holding them since I bought in 2008. Who would have thought following the actions of Mr. Adeleston from Las Vegas Sands buying when he did at $1.50 and holding the company would be the easy choice over Trading, too risky and that scares me too much!
