    'THE MATRIX' AND 'THE VILLAGE'

Elsewhere someone created a thread concerning the novels '1984' and 'Animal Farm' as being relevant to the WTS. I would also like to add a thread to draw suggestions for movies.

I'll start the ball rolling with my own two movies that I think really fit the bill: 'The Matrix' and 'The Village'. I think each has its own important message to say about living in an illusory world controlled by others. Most people have seen 'The Matrix', but I thoroughly encourage those who haven't seen it to watch 'The Village' [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Village_(2004_film)] as it really shows how religious leaders can dupe so many people into staying where they are through fear - although this has been described as a horror movie, don't let this put you off as there is no gratuitous blood-letting but rather an uncomfortable air of tension and imminent unknown danger like that in Hitchcock's films.

Yeah those are 2 movies that struck a cord.

    Pleasantville ... it's all black-and-white in the b'Org!

A lot of people here relate to Fight Club as well.

Also, The Island, which is basically a remake of Logan's Run (another good book & movie).

wow, I remember that movie from when I was a kid, and yeah, forgot that one. CREEPY .... how the Eloi gave themselves over to the Morlocks, going down in the bowels of the earth ... it freaked me out at the time.

"Guyana Tragedy - The Story of Jim Jones"

Watched it recently, scary how some scenes are so reminiscent of things you hear as a JW.

A lot of my fave movies here!

Don't forget The Shawshank Redemption (not so much waking up from an illusory world but escaping an unjust, abusive one).

Gonna go with Shawshank. Moreso the movie than the book. Shows the way different people could react to life outside of the walls of the Borg. Brooks couldn't deal with not being in the walls because that was all he knew for 50 years. Red showed the struggle to find a purpose outside of the walls but ultimately hung on and it paid off.
