Gone are the days of scoffing at ape men. It used to be you would have JWs ridicule evidence of Neanderthals existence. Now the WT can't deny they existed so they say, well they were just another race of man. Does this make sense? From what father? The bible lists the lines of descendants. Which one was the weird guy with a sloping forehead and other abnormalities? Active JWs, where did Neanderthals come from?

    Here is Watching the World

    Were Neanderthals Like Us?

β€œThe long-held view that Neanderthals were inferior to Homo sapiens is changing as, one by one, capabilities thought unique to us have been linked to them,” says New Scientist. Recent discoveries indicate that Neanderthals built shelters and hearths, controlled fire, wore clothes, cooked food, made tools, and created glue to attach spear points to their shafts. There is also evidence that they cared for sick individuals, wore symbolic ornaments, and buried their dead. According to Erik Trinkaus, professor of physical anthropology at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., β€œ Neanderthals were people, and they probably had the same range of mental abilities we do.”

the point of my quoting Watching the World above is not to say I agree they were people as Erik Trinkaus is quoted. But rather to show, there is no attempt to discredit fossil evidence or argue they did not exist. It is admitted they exist. Now the last remaining leg for them is to say they were a race of man descended from Adam. Wow.

I saw a doco where some Neanderthal graves were found in Spain. The graves had some cultural items in them indication the person was buried with some ceremony. Someone did a DNA test and found they were not Homo Sapien.

Where now from Genesis did they come? Me thinks we have an enormous chapter to open on this part of human (!) history.

Of course the Watchtower omits to mention that Trinkaus is an modern and archaic human evolutionist specialising in studies dating back 750,000 years

I wonder if he knows he is being quoted by a creationist organisation?

They conveniently forget to mention that Trinkous also believes they were around 24,500 years ago.

The more we find out about Neanderthals the more they surprise us ! They were not so very different to us it seems, from the reconstuction I saw shown on another thread about this, and on a TV programme earlier this year.

In fact you could easily sit next to someone on the 'bus who looks very like that, or rather they usually come and sit next to me !

As I asked on another thread, how do the WT explain our inter-breeding ? as they died out before the time for Adam and Eve to be in the Garden according to that oh so wonderful Bible Chronology ?

Were Neanderthals perfect or sinners ? we need to know, they were our ancestors in some way.

    Come on WT, explain !

Not human. If you call human Homo Sapiens. Another sentient race with abilities that matched or exceeded our own.

Agree. Different DNA means not human. I wish people could look at this through the eyes of logic and reason.

And approximately 97.5% of your working (coding) DNA is the same as a mouse. Of course, the statistic is misleading because it considers only coding DNA, not total DNA.
