Even when I was "in" I could see the folly of this belief. I did not like to discuss it because it seemed highly symbolic, not literal. I mean, if God had made all the animals vegetarian, bar the scavengers, why would he have re-created some of them into hunters? For what purpose? Why did The Bible not say so?
Also I wonder now why the translaters use the word "staw" and not hay or fodder or grass. Straw is used for bedding , none of the animals live on eating it.
Also, day one after Armageddon is the New World of Christ's millenium in which this will apply, right? But the WTS forecasts a great bloody meal of meat for animals and birds, from the human carcases that will be strewn on the ground...So how does that fit?

Why do skunks have a bad smell, turtles a shell, spiders a web, snakes venom, lizards color change, porcupines spines, and toads and frogs a toxin to name just a few off the top of my head. They didn't evolve right JW's? So why did God make the veggy eating critters that way?

You also have God taking credit before Job for the ability of the lion to hunt (38:39-40), which makes no sense if it wasn't something He actually did. (Said with the JW hat firmly in place.)
