The parable of the Discreet and Evil Slaves is just that a PARABLE , when will folks recognize that ? I have no choice but to put these next few words in Capitals :

    IT IS NOT A PROPHECY.

Read it without JW Specs on and you will plainly see, it is a story used as a teaching aid, and ONLY that !

Vanderhoven7, I agree that according to the NT gospels "Jesus encouraged believers to be ready at all times precisely because the timing of the parousia would be unknown."

You make a good point in regards to that, but interestingly in regards to the flood of Noah's day Genesis 6:3 quotes Yahweh as saying he will limit man's days to 120 years. That verse seems to be saying that Yahweh said to someone (probably Noah) that he will destroy humans (other than those who board the Ark to was to be built) 120 years after the day the pronouncement was made. It seems less likely that means no individual humans of future times would live more than 120 years since the Bible says that a number of Noah's descendants lived much longer than that. But perhaps the account suggests the pronouncement was made at an earlier time (perhaps uttered to Enoch) since Genesis 5:32 says Noah got to be 500 years old before fathering his three sons and Genesis 7:6,11 say Noah was 600 years old when the deluge began - a difference of 100 years between the two incidents and thus less than 120 years.

Regarding Enoch see Genesis 5:24 which suggests that Enoch was very holy, Jude 14-15, and in the Bible translated by Goodspeed and Smith see the NT Preface and see 1 Peter 3:19-20 which both state the name Enoch (instead of using the word "he"); see also also Moffatt's Bible in regards to the mention of Enoch in 1 Peter 3:19.

The reason why I brought up timing in regards to the flood of Noah's day is because the Bible records Jesus saying the coming of the Son of Man would come unexpectedly like the flood of Noah's day, yet Genesis specifically mentions 120 years.

The Faithful Slave has not been appointed yet.

The Watchtower falsely claims that the Slave was appointed in 1919.

    Got the following online

"The facts of modern history show that in the year 1919 [Jesus] revived these much afflicted disciples and gathered them together in a united body. Then he appointed them as his “slave” class “over all his belongings,” that is, over all his royal interests at the earth." Watchtower 1971 Dec 15 p.750

This is not what was intended by the Scriptures. The Bible states that the appointment over all the belongings is made after the master arrives.

Matthew 24:46,47 "Happy is that slave if his master on arriving (erchomai) finds him doing so. Truly I say to you, He will appoint him over all his belongings."

The master has not yet arrived, as the memorial is to cease on his arrival, and so the Slave has not been appointed over all the belongings.

1 Corinthians 11:26 "For as often as you eat this loaf and drink this cup, you keep proclaiming the death of the Lord, until he arrives (erchomai)."

The leaders have prematurely seized control for themselves, and consolidated that control. The 2012 version of the doctrine leaves Christians uncared for between 33 CE and 1919 CE, and elevates the exclusivity and importance of Governing Body. This is in contrast to the parable, which indicates that at this time the elders are to be shepherds of the congregation.

One would expect that the definition for one of Jehovah's Witnesses to be a person that worships Jehovah. However, the defining concept to being a Jehovah's Witness is not worship of Jehovah, but rather following the "faithful and discreet slave." In a judicial committee, the foremost question is not whether a Witness believes the Bible or worships Jehovah, but whether they believe God is using the Watchtower Faithful and Discreet Slave in our day. If a person believes in the Bible and Jehovah, they will still be disfellowshipped as an apostate if they openly confess that the Watchtower leaders do not represent Jehovah's slave.

Vanderhoven7 : The leaders have prematurely seized control for themselves, and consolidated that control.

The Watchtower article "Who Really is the Faithful and Discreet Slave" of July 15, 2013, discusses when the slave is appointed over all the Master's belongings. It says :

It is noteworthy that in Jesus’ illustration, the faithful and discreet slave receives two distinct appointments. The first is over the domestics; the second is over all the master’s belongings ... Note that Jesus makes the second appointment after he arrives and finds that the slave has been “doing so,” that is, faithfully dispensing spiritual food. So there would be an interval between the two appointments.

    ...

In view of the foregoing, what can we conclude? When Jesus comes for judgment during the great tribulation, he will find that the faithful slave has been loyally dispensing timely spiritual food to the domestics. Jesus will then delight in making the second appointment—over all his belongings. Those who make up the faithful slave will get this appointment when they receive their heavenly reward, becoming corulers with Christ.

The WTS explanation is (was?) that the master arrived in 1919 and named the leadership of the WTS as the F&DS.

This was the group of men responsible for providing spiritual food in the critical last days.

...and almost nothing that they taught over the next 10-30 years is condsidered "truth" by JWs today.

They do love them their two classes of everything, don't they?
