    The trouble is, your Thread Title is actually very believable!

    I made this point on Cedar's recent "New Light ..." thread:

    I don't know if anyone else has commented on this or not (I have NOT read all 11 pages of this thread), but I'm thinking the Control Freaks affectionately knows as the Governing Body (aka FDS) must be having conniption fits knowing that there is a mole in Brooklyn leaking info to apostates!

    "Three weeks ahead of its expected release date in mid-April, a scanned copy of the July 15 2013 "Study Edition" of the Watchtower was leaked to the office of JWsurvey by a conscientious active Witness within the organization."

    I think it was Ray Franz who mentioned this in CoC as an idea that was considered back in his day.

    Nothing new under the sun, even on 1st April.

    I understood that Bethelites were bound not to reveal info about new publications for the conventions or risk leaving Bethel.

    'Fool's Day' is 'every' day for all JWs! Their 'Loyalty' oath is done on their baptism day.

    Not sure what you angle is. Confidentiality clauses are standard practice in many, if not, most incorporated companies and organizations. What's so newsworthy? What's the big deal?

    I work for a hospital run by a government appointed "District Health Board" which has strict rules on who disseminates information to non-hospital sources and who must not disseminate information.

    I signed a very detailed confidentiality clause when I was first employed and periodic reminders of the need for confidentiality are sent to all employees via email and notice boards.

    Standard practice, my friend - or are you implying that when the Watchtower does this it is somehow sinister and symptomatic of its being a cult?

    "In keeping with the Bible's requirements, I, ________(State your name), recognize that:

    "Jehovah has one true organization on this earth today;

    "That one true organization is known as Jehovah's Witnesses;

    "Said true organization is directed by Jesus Christ through the faithful and discreet slave, which is closely associated with the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses;

    "Said faithful and discreet slave was appointed by Jesus Christ in the year 1919 to dispense Jehovah's truths at the proper time, in keeping with Matthew 24:45-47;

    "I will obey and recognize the authority of the faithful and discreet slave and humbly submit to the direction of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses for as long as I shall live."

    ...And...print!

    Steve,

    Fair enough, but you allude to the link to confidentiality by your thread title which links the loyalty oath pledge to the following:

    To Avoid Further Leaks Of Watchtower Information Embarrassment....

    One of the prime reasons organizations fiercely monitor leaks and unauthorized disclosures is the potential of such occurrences embarrassing the corporation's name and/or leading to even legal difficulties.

    So, whether you call it a "loyalty pledge" or "Confidentiality Agreement", the intent is identical.

    In my view, the Watchtower is no different from any other religiously incorporated organization - or even secular incorporated organization: The expectation "inside" that there is a clear "channel" of communication with the public, news organizations particularly but not exclusively and a requirement that employees who are not so authorized do not disclose confidential information.

    Steve,

    So, whether you call it a "loyalty pledge" or "Confidentiality Agreement", the intent is identical.

    I guess in the most very simplistic way they can be identical but that is just a matter crude comparison with very little attention to detail, sorta like looking at two different objects through a lense so much out of fucus that the two appear pratically identical.
