Okay so a real suicide story...

There has been a lot of talk about Jw suicides here after the Oregon thing. Well here is a real story from last year about a family member of mine.

My aunt was a missionary for as long as I can remember. She and my uncle left to serve abroad when I was young. They served for many years then came back to be travelling overseers for the Spanish speaking congregations.

They were the real deal. They had nothing. One could honestly say they were truly devoted to Jehovah (and/or the WTS). During the time my mother was DF'd, then reinstated, then did a quick fade. I left a few years later.

We were of course outcast with only occasional attemps to bring us back in. We would get word that my aunt was battling some illness but that her faith was still strong. Details were scarce. Little did we know that she was also battling depression. For how long I dont know, but I am sure her treatment for many years was only scriptures, prayer, and more Watchtower.

The last time I saw my aunt was at my grandmothers funeral. The family all assembled at a neutral location and we did actually talk to each other. My aunt hugged me and began to cry. There was this strange look in her eye, something you notice but dont understand at that exact moment...

Well if only we could have takled to her, away from the other witnesses. Could we have just talked, to find out what was going on, with no critisism or judgement, no tracts or helpful WT articles to point out, no bullshit, I wonder.

So not long after that I was called by my stepfather to advise me that my mothers sister had committed suicide.

So we are at the funeral. I was wondering about the method of her demise because I was not told and did nodt really want to ask. I needed to know and I found out.

She had gotten away from my Jw relatives whom She and my uncle lived with, taken a car up a nearby canyon, doused herself with gasoline and...well lets just say one must be in a lot pain to choose that way to go out.

Needless to say I was stunned. No matter what method one chooses to kill oneself the end result is the same but this was horrible. What could drive someone to it? There are many unanswered questions. This was the wife a prominent brother here. The thing was very sudden and the funeral talk was mostly about her battle with lupus and then the usual attempt to use the opportunity to preach to the audience. I spent most of the time outside with my 1 year old.

I did not write this for sympathy for myself so send no regets. I was sad more for my mother than myself. It is over and done. That page was written. The only thing left to do is learn from this. If this can happen to such a prominent one who had served God her entire life then what exactly does that mean?

May you rest in peace Christina.

    Condolences.

I'm surprised but relieved they gave her funeral service. That would have been a worse ending to a terrible story.

((((((((((tdogg)))))))) I'm glad there was a funeral service as well.

How did that come about, if it's okay to ask?

Dung, it is okay to ask, but what do mean, how did what come about?

    Hey tdogg,

As someone who's experienced two different suicides in the family, I can sort of understand the questions. But in the case of your aunt, well, it's just so sad. There are so many 'if only' thoughts.

Sorry and sad to hear about such stories. This should be a serious concern within the org. but it isn't. Their view is, just attend the meetings and Jehovah will take care of everything, yeah right. Many friends have served years for the org. and what did they get? Maybe, just maybe, a story about them in the WT. Disagree with the org. and see how quickly your escorted out the door. And they say, Satan' org. is cold and heartless? It may be the case, but at least they have some kind of pension plan or insurance when your dismissed.

at the last elders school i attended the bethel instructor told us that 95% of all cases can be handled by asking 3 questions and if any are answered NO then that is the publishers problem.

    1. Are you regular at ALL THE MEETINGS?

    2. Are you regular in Field service having a healthy share and not token service?

    3. Are you up-to-date on your magazine reading and personally study?

if the publisher answers NO to either one of these you are to tell them this is why they are having:

health problems( walking in service is better than a membership at "Gold's Gym" they would say)

    money problems
    depression
    bad A$$ kids
    marital problems
    discouragement
    lose your job
    bad housing
    etc

and the list goes on and on- if you do these 3 things on a reg basis, then your problems as the wt has said "WILL FADE INTO THE BACKGROUD, SINCE YOU WILL NOT HAVE TIME TO CONCENTRATE ON YOUR OWN PERSONAL PROBLEMS" somthing like that- may not be the exact quote but anyway point is the same

this is the basic mindset that an elder has due to the training that wt give them

    how sad

    yes the wt has said

Talk about missionarys- There is an 80 year old woman in St Joseph
MO who for many years was one overseas....She came back to the States to look after her dying Mother- Her hubby was DF for drinking-But she carried on- she is now crippled- they Df her for pointing out her fleshly brothers theft-of her Mothers belongings-he was an elder.
She read Crises Of Con: Even helped Ray with the loaning of the money to publish it in Spainish- She now sits in a "home" with not a soul to visit- ALL her family are JWs...I call her once a month-I have never met her...What a lonely life to live-Not a soul ( brothers & sisters, fleshly or spirituel) who care.I live in Canada so it is far for me to go.But if any on here arein MO- feel like visiting a lonely old lady?

    tdogg,

Thank you for sharing your story. I believe there are many suicides that have happened among the jws that are not being talked about.

JT, thank you for your comments. It shows how shallow the wtbts is. Not christian at all.
