Really?! This is 50 million of tax payer money that should go somewhere else.
See this is why I as a Quebecois want to separate. It is beyond a language issue.http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/religious-freedom-office-shows-lack-of-conservative-hidden-agenda/article8822804/

I don't understand. What is the point of posting this? Not being rude... sincere question. I'm not sure I understand what I just read.

Sounds like the Canadian government is doing the things that i also stand for; I'm not sure what it had to do with canadian atheists?

    Peace,

An office of five staff and a budget of $5 million. I don't think they could even afford a mass mailout.

Well considering Stephen Harper is a member of Christian and Missionary Alliance, and that his policies reflect those of a millernarist, the fact that he his promoting
freedom of religion sounds like he is backing his own agenda; and the agenda of people who believe wisdoms of goat herders.

I did warn in my topic title that I am adressing atheists.

The creation of an office of this kind is quite scray. Notice it is not Freedom of Belief, but religious freedom. Do you believe this money will help atheists facing execution for apostasy?
Or further the cause of christians in muslim countries?

    Peace to you also.
    Serge.

Thank you Jgnat. Yeah I got one zero to many.

But still... Is this is one of the priorities of this government?! Really?!
I am not surprised in anyway. But religion in my goverment is not what I want.

It does not sound like religion in government to me. It sounds like an office dedicated to protecting religious freedoms for all--something guaranteed in Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the U.S.' Bill of Rights, and the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Defending freedom of religion for all isn't "religion in government" in any meaningful way in my opinion. Those are liberal values.

$5 million is not a priority. It's a token effort. I agree Harper likely did it to appease the religious right that helped get him in to power.

I was confused by the title, and thought you meant it was a canadian atheist freedom from religious office... then the article had nothing to do with that. LOL. Sorry.

Five million dollars is not very much in terms of an office in government. Pursuing freedom for others is not a waste of money, though, and I would totally support an office that also supported the atheist right to being free to practice no religion, and not to have it forced upon them, and to offer asylum in our country to those who face execution in others for being atheists.

The Canadian Government should create an office to fight cultic deviances like in France, they have the Miviludes.
