This is exactly what I asked my wife. If the WT has stated over and over, there are no more miraculous events, then why do u pray for one?.

Her response? "I'm not, I want to be able to cope with a situation." I said "by prayer? How is this not a miraculous event? It's not like your house is on fire and u call the fire dept. A person answers the phone, and the fire dept shows up. But u are calling on someone in your head, and asking that 'person' to intervene and make things better. How is that not a miraculous event?"

Exactly. By definition, ANYTHING god does is miraculous. If he doesn't do miracles, anymore, why pray AT ALL???? They are on their own. Perhaps, prayer drowns up the cognitive dissonence.

I remember when John May was visiting here and he and a group of pioneers were going to Disneyland, they all prayed before the trip and were involved in a terrible car crash shortly after. I was like Wooaaah!

    Hello there Wha Happened

I don't see nothin' wrong in her prayin', But it would be a good thing

to add a little supplication to that prayer

There are things that are completely out of my hands

and I have no choice but to give it up in prayer

There are things Jehovah's witnesses can do , right now

in this lifetime. But they are reminded that they cannot direct their own steps

to wait on the kingdom. And sit back and pray that it will be in their lifetime

As I have often stated, the civil rights many Jehovah's witnesses

have today did not come through the miracle of a prayer alone

people made sacrifices in thier lives jus' for a taste of paradise

    Right here. right now

Jehovah' witnesses can sit back and wait on the kingdom if they wanna

but I wouldn't advise it. If there was somethin' I could do for myself

while waitin' I'd do it. And leave it to Jesus to pick up the slack when he come

I compare Jehovah's Witnesses to someone who has an empty lunch bag

and when they sit down to eat, they Pray and wait for a sandwich to appear

    without actually makin' one

All because the read that God provide food for the birds. Unless they like eatin' worms

they need to do somethin' bout makin' a sandwich

it's amaziing how things i've thought of over the years has been brought up here. years ago i was out in service with an elder and the subject came up when his young daughter was very ill, how he did alot of praying. so i brought up how Jehovah does not intervene miraculously on individuals, so the only thing we can pray for is wisdom and strenght to cope with the situation. so why do we pray if a loved one is ill? his answer was "it does'nt hurt".

    "it does'nt hurt".

But it completley goes over their head that it doesn't help, and it doesn't take the place of personal responsibility

But it completley goes over their head that it doesn't help_____Wha Happened

For some people Prayer gives them a peace of mind. And that peace of mind

can put the patient in a better mindset which can help aid their recovery

For others who are not believers may have somethin' else to aid them

in their recovery like somthin' to look forward too

which boils down to the same equation and that is

the will to get better. That jus' my two cents anyway
