    Hurricane Andrew probably caused this mess in 1992- many pet stores in Miami and Homestead were destroyed and those snakes escaped in large numbers- that area seemed to be the nexus of the initial wild breeding population-

    Lion Fish escaped, too and are now gobbling up native saltwater fish species-- they have venemous spines and no natural predators here to stop them.
