Just to be clear his instructions to the Israelites were

to commit genocide. Deuteronomy 7:16 "you shall destroy

all the people" (seven nations). All those cocroaches nations

    to be wipe out.

Well we know they didn,t follow his instructions, (thank God)

but why was God worried about the Hutu,s, Tutsi, Canaanites and

other nations. Did the Israelites start worshipping false God,s,

having orgies, sacrificing people. By the time Jesus came along

the religion seem to be intact. They still worshipped God.

Yes it was deemed OK to kill outside civilizations other than their own.

And I might add Yahweh didn't have a problem at all killing innocent children, particularly first borns.

The first genocidal killer of children

Yes, it makes me think, here we have a nation not progressing

like their neighbors. Ok, we are going to make our nation an

exclusive group of people. It will be us against all, we can kill, rape

what ever in the name of our God, we don,t answer to anyone.

LOL, it gets complicated; but there is good evidence that the scroll of Deuteronomy was 'forged' and 'planted' in the Temple during the reign of King Josiah (2 Chronicles 14-18). Most likely none of the events recorded in the first 5 books of the Bible ever actually happened- so no Canaanites were harmed during the making of the Bible. But monotheism was the rule after the Israelites returned from captivity in Babylon.

Transhuman 68; That,s my point. How may years were they held

captive by Babylon , and they still came out worshipping one God.

Interesting, scroll of Deuteronomy forged and planted. Now if

we discovered that the rest of the OT was forged. Happy days!!!!

There are many incidents of so called rulers of the Israelites or Judah invading other civilizations by god's chosen ones.

Murder was approved but you first had to say your doing it in the name of god (YHWH).

Forged and planted or divine instructions, it's still an order for genocide. The ones carrying out the atrocities can be absolved of guilt... Just following the big guy's orders.

But Jehovah loves you! EVERYTHING he does is motivated by love. Barf

With the Canaanites: "everything that breathed" includes men, women, children of any age, and animals. Why animals. Why were the Philistines not considered as terrible?

(Joshua 10:40) . . .And Joshua proceeded to strike all the land of the mountainous region and the Neg′eb and the She·phe′lah and the slopes and all their kings. He did not let a survivor remain, and everything that breathed he devoted to destruction, just as Jehovah the God of Israel had commanded.

(Deuteronomy 20:10-18) 10 “In case you draw near to a city to fight against it, you must also announce to it terms of peace. 11 And it must occur that if it gives a peaceful answer to you and it has opened up to you, it must even occur that all the people found in it should become yours for forced labor, and they must serve you. 12 But if it does not make peace with you, and it actually makes war with you and you have to besiege it, 13 Jehovah your God also will certainly give it into your hand, and you must strike every male in it with the edge of the sword. 14 Only the women and the little children and the domestic animals and everything that happens to be in the city, all its spoil you will plunder for yourself; and you must eat the spoil of your enemies, whom Jehovah your God has given to you. 15 “That is the way you will do to all the cities very far away from you that are not of the cities of these nations. 16 It is only of the cities of these peoples that Jehovah your God is giving you as an inheritance that you must not preserve any breathing thing alive, 17 because you should without fail devote them to destruction, the Hit′tites and the Am′or·ites, the Ca′naan·ites and the Per′iz·zites, the Hi′vites and the Jeb′u·sites, just as Jehovah your God has commanded you; 18 in order that they may not teach YOU to do according to all their detestable things, which they have done to their gods, and YOU may indeed sin against Jehovah YOUR God.
