Strange this should pop up, darth.
I am up every 2 hours during a "normal" night. Last night I got up once then slept straight for six hours.
You're correct about getting things done in peace.

I suffer from Sleep Apnoeia, this wakes me often during the night, my wife says when I am not breathing she gets her best rest, at least I am not snoring !
I really must go and see the Vet about a cure. Then I can snore non-stop all night !

Waking up for an hour or two and then going back to sleep was how people used to sleep, before the invention of lights let people stay up later-

I've seen articles about polyphasic sleep -- unfortunately for me after I take a nap during the day, I have about 1 to 2 hours of grogginess that is oftentimes worse then just staying up and "powering through" the desire to nap.
