I accepted a fleeting but restless sleep
that foisted itself upon me one lonely,
silent night not so long ago . . .

Opened up to me was a world of love
and light I had not known yet would
welcome to cheer a broken soul.

    As wakefulness nudged my reluctant
self, I struggled against my return
to the land of Awake and Woe.

Succeed I did and stayed betwixt a
night and a day of a twilight that
    promised what life had denied.

Great poetry, Coco. Here's my homage to getting a good night's sleep!

I'm sure the tale is often told

    of sleepless nights when you get old;

first hot flashes then comes cold

and soon arthritis grabs its hold.

Although these years had been foretold

to be a time that some call gold,

as I see my years unfold

on this idea I'm just not sold.

So good hearing from you, Quandry!

The poem's great -- no, not so golden these years.

    Best.

Yes, sometimes dreams seem so genuine--until morning arrives-- then reality comes flooding back to one's mind.

    But, during that brief moment...

    It WAS real... wasn't it?

Your beautiful words are bittersweet and make me feel acutely aware of my own heartache.

    Goodnight and sweet dreams, CoCo.

I went to bed in tears, afraid and shaking.
The shadow on the wall -- my own -- was

Bigger than me, looming large, menacing
and declaring in a booming yet muted

Whisper that I had better shake in my boots
(before removed and placed under my chair)

If I knew what was good for me and really
did fear fear itself and all He purposed to do.

I quivered and sweated the miserable night
away, under covers offering scant shelter from

Myself, my greatest and most formidable enemy.
