A Backwoods Lake

Deep and black is a backwoods lake whose menace is not at surface seen, but lurks with tangled limbs seeking unwary souls who too close by fall- ing banks have plied their innocent but foolish footfalls -- DANGER! -- The thump, thump of which alerts the spirits of the lake to rise, to seek what goodly manner of flesh comes to sate a ghoulish palate that knows no limit to what is acceptable upon which to dine and accompanying good taste.

Standing as I was upon the edge of an inky, impenetrable water, it seemed more on the verge of a nightmare that I wavered so
uneasily, so without any hope of rescue should I pitch inexorably
    forward.

If it's all over, then this my nightmare is but a dream of sweetness,
one of glorious illumination that hastens me to the elysian shores
of a tangerine dream whose hold upon my shattered soul is strong,
    secure . . . everlasting. . . .

    Good seeing you, Tal!

Listening to Tangerine Dream now. You never know what will trigger a verse or two after a protracted writer's block!

    Thanks!

Good to hear your writer's block has melted. I get that with my art, but the best way to get over that hump, is to just do it, every day ... once 15 minutes or so goes by, the flow kicks in. S. King's book On Writing, discusses that in detail, and I know lots of artists that say the same (musicians, visual artists and writers alike).

All the best, CoCo de veritable!

Thanks, Tal, for the good advice.

It's a matter of discipline. I have to remember that.

Your words and encouragement are always appreciated.

So weary I was from a walk in the woods
that I lay to rest at the foot of an alder tree,
finding sweet repose on a cool nest of leaves.

The air, both fragrant and warm, lulled me gently
to a needed sleep (I welcomed it gladly) and said to
me that she would awaken me in a very short while.

To that blissful state of a flowing mind I succumbed and
awaited her promise that, in due course, the time should
come when I would arise refreshed, prepared to carry on.

Dreaming away that the air had turned chill,
I awoke with a start, black hail on my face and
my clothes all awash with an unheralded drench.

The sky had turned dark (for hours had I slept), but
for moon blurred by mist and stars draped by a shroud
that presaged to this man some great terror lay nearby.

In slow counter-motion, as viewed in deep southern climes,
the black water's center spun and swirled till, at length, once
placid liquid caved with deafening roar to an abyss near to Hell.
