Satan's Time Lessens

    Yadirf,
Sorry I didn't respond last night. Had to leave to go to a family party.
Door to door really is the least efficient way to reach people today. I started to notice this before I left the borg. In an hour each pair of witnesses would talk to maybe one or two people. Tops.
Last summer, I was sitting out in the yard enjoying the day. I saw 2 witnesses walking sloooowly up the street toward me. This was during the week and I was the only one home. Everyone else was at work. I have a good view of the block from here. No one answered at any door on the street. It took them over an hour to do the houses visible to me. In this hour, the only one these 2 witnesses encountered was me.
Yes they did talk to me (I'm new to this area, and they didn't know me yet) No, I wasn't mean. Did give them something to think about though. Not a very productive morning for them. Such is the scenario in most areas. To take it a step further, my second generation elder father never brought anyone into the borg in his 68 years. My mother brought in a few. My grandfather, and anointed grandmother never brought in anyone exept their 2 children. My aunt and DO uncle didn't bring in anyone either! Me? Thankfully none.
Churches have a much more effective means of reaching people. Yes, they use the media, and community outreaches that actually help people. Friends of mine go yearly on trips to bring medicine and the gospel to remote parts of the globe. They bring an interpreter with them. Another friend is a nurse/missionary in Togo, Africa.
Churches do offer Bible studies. One I attended before moving even offered classes in Greek as well as training for ministry.
They also offered parenting classes, and support groups for cancer patients. The list was huge! These classes were optional, made available for any who wanted or needed them. Extremely well attended too.

Hmmm, read a post that said you don't go door to door. Why?
And, how do you know Christians have never come to your door. Are you always home?

Anyway, this post is getting too long. I'll end it here.

And, how do you know Christians have never come to your door. Are you always home?

The only ones that go to peoples homes here are JWs and the Mormons, the same for hundreds of miles around … the same as it is in YOUR area. The city where I live is heavily laden with various denominations of Christendom. If any of their members were to ever be informed by their Pastors that they must obey Jesus' command to "go make disciples" they all would be in total disarray, completely untrained and unprepared. You should know from your own experience, having been a JW, that most people are not self-starting when it comes to preaching to others. They require shepherding to help them out into the field service, and to give them the encouragement they need to press forward. The Ministry School provides the necessary training which gives such ones the confidence they need so as to enable them to feel more natural in speaking to strangers. Of course Christendom doesn't have anything like that for all their members, do they? Of course they don’t! And it betrays just how serious they are NOT.

Am I always home? Nobody is always at home. But people have to go home sometime, do they not. I've lived in this town since I was born. And I wasn't born yesterday. I’ve got a pretty good feel of what the Churches around my neck of the woods do, and do not do.

Why am I not going door to door at present? Am I personally what this thread is about. Seems to me like I entitled it “Satan’s Time Lessens”. Shouldn’t your question be the subject of a different thread? Surely you can find something to discuss that’s relevant to the subject, can’t you? Carl (Larc) was the one that initially raised the question you picked up on. Of course he did so for the purpose of hijacking the thread -- by focusing the attention on the author of it rather than the subject matter. The jerk!

Actually, I am new to my area, and am rarely home, so I can't speak to the issue of who goes from door to door here. In my previous location of over 20 years, the Baptist Churches do send people out from door to door in the community. I remember my first visit by Baptists. I was still a dub, and my reaction was kinda funny, looking back. I thought...how dare they...we're the only ones who do that. I didn't invite them in, told them I wasn't interested. Life lesson learned.
My initial point is that the door to door work is not an efficient way of contacting people, and I illustrated it with a couple of my own experiences. The proof is in the pudding. Growth rate among JW? Not impressive at all. Mostly due to having children, but that's a whole new subject.

I wasn't attacking you when I asked why you don't go from door to door. You said that the meetings were an expression of true worship, and responding to me you said that the meetings were for training for ministry. Soooo, if you don't participate in this, are you worshiping at all? I'm just trying to understand your point.

As I see it, it's neither worship nor true.

Just one quick point I left out. Spreading the gospel should not come from someone cracking the whip to make sure you perform. The real motivation should come from the heart, not counting time and making literature placements.

    Yidarf/Lefty,

I think it is hypocritical for you to posts words here promoting the JWs, when in your own case, you are inactive and have been for many years. You keep avoiding an explaination for the new ones here. It seems to me that you really don't have a good reason.

The Society teaches that you will die at Armageddon, because you know the "truth", yet you are doing nothing about it. How do you resolve this in your mind? Are you somehow above the rules, even theough you are "running ahead of the organization?"

I am not hijacking the thread. I am asking a legitimate question about the difference between what you say and what you do.

    Yadirf says:

I do that to give you something legitimate to cry about.

Too bad it's just about the only thing you do right.

    Friday,
You asked if other Churches train their members. I'm posting a link to the website of First Baptist Church Orlando. It's where I used to attend before moving. It lists the classes available (not required) for anyone in the community.
