  Throwing out accusations without things to back them up DOES NOT HELP. It simply provides ammunition for people to dismiss all claims as fictitious inventions.

  There have been numbers bandied around and we know that certain policies and mindsets may pose more of a threat than would otherwise be the case but there is nothing conclusive that proves they are worse than other similar groups (which in itself is an indictment of a group claiming to represent god and be uber-spiritual).

  Taking as read that JWs - claiming to be the best of the best and the only divinely-led organisation - turns out to have (apparently) just as many sinners as any other group of people, where they damage themselves is the cover-ups, denial, and legal manipulations in which they engage.

  Time and time again (it seems to me) that the cover-up attempts are almost always more damaging than the wrong-doing itself. I have more respect for a person or organisation that admits its faults and does something about it than one that has engaged (and these things usually come to light sooner or later) in a sleazy and questionable attempt to conceal, hide and deceive.

  An elder standing up in court saying 'I'm sorry, I got it wrong. I am a layman with no training or experience in this area. I did my best (and this was my thinking) but it wasn't good enough' would present a better picture of the organisation than some of the shenanigans we have seen.

  Greenlees was stood down from his role on the GB when he was an older man - that part is part of the public record. Others on this forum and elsewhere have stated directly - or alluded - that he sexually propositioned young men at Bethel. There were never any intimations that he was a child molester - although someone on this forum a few years ago pointed the finger at another GB member, alleging child sexual abuse. Unfortunately - but understandably - these sorts of allegations made anonymously over the internet - are difficult to substantiate and the scary thing is, the allegations linger regardless of their calibre.

  The major motive for rape is power, not sex.

  The Watchtower Society fosters a climate that is a perversion of power. The adherents of the JW religion have a distorted sense of their own power - on one hand, they are indoctrinated to believe that they have power over the rest of 'the world'. Yet, in actuality, they have no personal power whatsoever. Therefore, they seek out power wherever they can get it, and...children are the easiest site upon which to act out the perpetrator's need for power.

  The natural vulnerability of children, combined with the isolation tactics of the cult, leads to the JW children being targeted for what JWs don't get from their 'god' (WTS) - personal power.

  Child abuse is rape. Rape is an act of power, not sex.

  Reminds me of the Fox propaganda. However, there does need to be a reporting policy adjustment in order to catch these sexual criminals.

  • Of every 100 incidents of sexual assault, only 6 are reported to the police

  Reduce that number of "six out of hundred" substantially within the JWs - those stats above reflect the population at large - the number reported will be far lower inside the JWs. The JW religion has more than "a few hundred pedos".

  • 57% of aboriginal women have been sexually abused

  • 1/5th of all sexual assaults involve a weapon of some sort

  • 80% of assailants are friends and family of the victim

  The above noted statistics have been taken from various studies across Canada. While the numbers can never been 100% accurate, a few key generalizations can made:

  1. sexual assault is far more common than most would suspect

  1. relatively few incidents of sexual assault are reported to the police

  1. young and otherwise vulnerable women are most likely to be sexually abused

  1. most sexual assaults are committed by someone close to the victim, not a stranger
