I heard of Blondies story but I have not read this account. I agree boc that the story just makes my heart hurt. Looking back on my years in the religion I can understand how it could have happened through.

When I was just a teenager I have burned into my mind this step mom who would beat her step son who was only four years old in the car group. I will remember this one day forever where she beat him and the look on his face was so sad. No one said a word to this woman who was by the way a pioneer at the time. I was just 15 years old myself and my family was very similar so in some ways I kind of thought it was normal, the kid did nothing through is what got to me, she was just ticked off that she had to have him with her in service that day and the fact that he was breathing was upsetting her.

Latter on when her own son was in his 20's he shot himself to death in her back yard.

I still cannot get over the fact that no one said anything to her and there were at least two other adults in the car group that day.

If they were smart they wouldn't say anything at all, it puts the organization in bad light no matter how they wash the story clean.

But then again whoever said the WTS. were smart !

From what information that has been released so far, if this guy is found guilty I hope he rots in a jail cell for the rest of his life.

The Watchtower only acknowledges incidents that have a happy ending and/or involve someone named Andre'.

Well, here's how one of the "rank and file" feels about it...facebook posting:

I promised myself no more crying but I couldn't help myself... I started reading "Whitney" posts again. What a privlege to belong to Jehovah's Organization! And how wise and loving the counsel from F&DS regarding the worlds "entertainment!" I can't help but think if "the perp" had been regular at meetings and listened to the counsel he would not have done this...

Hey Watson - at one level a snidely revealing facebook entry, yet at another, a predictable attempt to distance the organization from the no-better-no-worse stamp of reality.

The alternative is for JWs to awaken to the shocking reality that they are pretty much like everybody else, no better, no worse. To an organization of people raised and/or inculcated to see their organization as a spiritual paradise importantly separate and distinct from the unsafe and unloving world, that prosaic reality would be unbearably distressing. Hence, the need to whip up some rationale that self-servingly vindicates the organization, still stamps it as "God's" chosen people.

I guess that's why Christians (however defined) have an unparalleled and well-established capacity to see "God's" presence and blessing where ordinary people with ears and eyes undistorted see bullshit and simply name it for what it is, bullshit. For non-ordinary humans, reality is far, far too painful and terrifying without cottonwool beliefs.
