Not Religon...not Belief....Not Inerrancy: INTERPRETATION is christianity

What the bible "says" isn't religion or doctrine or belief.

    Interpretation is.

    Proved how?

There is not just one christian church.

    Ask yourself "why?"

Here is a logic puzzle easily solved!

Example: If a math book with equations were inerrant what would happen if every student in the world worked the equations?

Answer: all students would achieve identical solutions.

What happens when the bible is read by christians all over the world?

    Read on...

Until Martin Luther came along there WAS one central "universal" (i.e. catholic) church) christian source authority.

Did you know (of course you do) the Catholic Church did not use "the bible says" as the source of THEIR AUTHORITY.

    No.

The universal christian church used INTERPRETATION as their source of power. This was called Magesterium.

If the Church said something was True----it was automaically True.

Maring Luther snipped this cord of authority.

What Luther let loose on the christian world was a substitute idea: Sola Scriptura.

Do you know what that is? (Sure you do.)

Each individual bible reader needed ONLY THE BIBLE ALONE to know God's true teaching.

    And you know what resulted?

Here is where the Logic Puzzle is presented and solved!

IF the bible alone was god's truth----every believer would AGREE with every other bible reader...LOGICALLY SPEAKING.

But, guess what? No surprise here!

Instead, we got thousands and thousands of DIFFERENT interpretations.

    The result?

    Denominations.

    Separate and disagreeing churches.

Christianity's history itself PROVES LOGICALLY the bible is NOT the source of inerrant Truth.

    What about Jehovah's Witnesses?

Now, this is very very interesting.

While pretending to use Martin Luther's sola scriptura (bible alone) the Watch Tower Society uses catholic Magesterium instead!

    They have it both ways!

Yet, combining two failed fundamentals (two source inerrancies) for them still only yields Dumb Opinions.

Even they too fail. "Adjustments" must be made in the same way using a broom and dustpan "adjusts" a broken mirror.

None of these ideas succeed logically to produce INERRANT truth.

Logically, opinion cannot ever be True. It can only be opinion.

Christianity is, was and always shall be: Opinion.

Why? There is nothing inerrant about any foundational books, writings, pronouncements or opinions.

    Q.E.D.

Terry .. you've done well in posting your opinion.

That makes it as valuable as anyone elses's .. even JWs.

Terry, I remember a very good post you had a few months ago, about how the Bible is like a mirror and everyone gets out of it whatever he himself is.

To a certain extent it is so, but other things in the Bible are not open to interpretation, such as love God with your whole heart, soul, mind and heart and your neighbour as yourself.

What is open for interpretation is for example the meaning of Babylon the Great, and our conclusion will vary depending on our own capacity, and/or personal interests.

Yes, something I've been saying to JWS who bring up the discussion of religion particularly their own.

The other end to all of this is that each individual religious organization says they are under divine direction from god.

This ties in with the recent thread discussion of the WTS. proclaiming that god choose them in 1919, in spite of the fact that the IBSA

under Rutherford was still upholding Pyramidology

The IBSA was just a small fringe Christian based religious group who practiced in similarity to most other religions of Christendom but were centered

on publicly distributing their ideas ( Interpretations ) through their publications door to door and making public talks.

Russell thought his own ( interpretations ) had somewhat commercial public appeal to an already known segment of the population that were

Christian based bible believers. The structural foundation of the WTS. publishing house grew from there, as it exists to this day.

    Good one Terry

Terry, glad to see you are feeling better.

    Now, devil's advocate. You say:

" Example: If a math book with equations were inerrant what would happen if every student in the world worked the equations?

Answer: all students would achieve identical solutions."

Correction: all students should come to the same answer. There can be thousands of different ways to solve the equation (and I believe there is infact a Guiness world record for number of different ways to solve a math problem).

Couldn't Christianity hide behind the same idea? If the end goal (second coming and going to heaven) is the same, why one way of getting there would be better than another?

And since the answer still remains to be seen, we are technically still solving the equation....

If the end goal (second coming and going to heaven) is the same

Problem is though that religions such as the JWS have developed their own answer to the equation and self proclaimed we have the right answer

and that all the others are wrong, which further creates a whole lot of diverse equations of A + B = C

Jesus said “he that is not with me is against me“, people that were with him even though did not belong to his group of apostles had his approval. Mar 9:38-40

He also said he who saw him saw the Father.

The bottom line of the message of the Bible is quite simple. Ec 12:13, Mic 6:8

In line with this thinking, then one might well say that the printing press was the most divisive invention in the history of the Christian religion.

Glad also to see Terry posting again.
