I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer ... but I have read a lot of details but still don't have the facts in my mind about the case so when I'm talking to other JW's at the KH that I can at least sound authoritative.

In a paragraph or two (or three), is there somewhere that lists the events, even from a JW perspective, on what actually occurred and when.

Something like: "The Accused was an Elder (or whatever) in the ABC Congregation from 19xx through 19xx. He had been convicted of another offense in 20xx. During that time, due to the 'two-witness' policy (or whatever), the information was never released to the congregation in general. During that time, he again molested another child (the victim)." Since 20xx, the victim has been trying to get the policy changed and has been in communication with the elders but to no avail etc, etc, etc.

You get the idea. Not just pieces of information, but a summary of what actually happened and why was brought now. Something like a timeline of events.

I'm sure someone who has done this.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or links.

Based on what I have gathered (someone correct me if I have something mixed up):

In the 1990's a JW ministerial servant had a history of molesting children. The congregation elders and the WTS knew of this. In the mid-90's he confessed (thus no need for 2 witnesses) to molesting a 9 year old JW girl. The elders removed him as a MS but did not report the abuse to the police as at the time California law did not require it. The elders, apparently under orders directly from the WTS, did not mention the abuse to anyone else in the congregation.

Some time later, the ex-MS abused other children.

In 2011 the victim sued the man, the local congregation, and the WTS for the abuse that occurred 17 years earlier.

The jury found for the plaintiff, and ordered a payment of $7 million in compensatory damages and $21 million in punitive damages. Most of the compensatory money was charged to the perpetrator, but all of the punitive damages are against the WTS.

Thank you Cedars ... and thank you Sir82 so much.

When speaking to other JW's it is always best to deal with facts and sound as if you are shocked about it. The more you just deal with facts (especially information brought up in a public courtroom) the less people question where you got the information.
