The Slate article seems to convey a different picture than all the other articles I've read. Does the author of the article have some kind of personal beef or is it just Slate's usual looniness? Anything run by Michael Kinsley is bound to be messed up.

    Dahlia Lithwick, Slate
Winner, Online Commentary, Online Journalism Awards 2001.

The judges said Lithwick really brings Supreme Court reporting alive, making coverage of a usually staid and serious beat vivid and enlightening, giving the reader a sense of the scene and tone inside the courthouse. Every column makes use of Slate's reader response board, The Fray, to launch a debate about the column topic.

PAW is delighted to announce that Kate Swearengen ’04, whose PAW Online column appears under the heading Raising Kate, is a finalist for an Online Journalism Award. The awards will be presented by the Online News Association & Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism on October 27. Swearengen is up against four others in the Online Commentary category. The other finalists are: Dahlia Lithwick, Slate magazine, Steve Kettmann, Salon magazine, Dave Coursey, ZDNET, and Dan Ackman, Forbes.com. The Association's website said: This category honors a body of work by a single writer for commentary original to the Web. (Print syndication after Web posting does not disqualify an entry.) Topics can range from news commentary to essays, reviews, criticism, opinion and humor. The writer should display an original voice, freshness of insight and clear writing. Creative use of the medium will also be considered. Entries consist of up to 5 examples each.
