After strenously objecting by the Jews, the LDS finally stopped officially baptizing Jews.

I think they have officially stopped batiizing jews, but my understanding is the practice continues.

Jesus is brought back to Heaven after a visit to Earth,
But the Devil is sent back to Hell after a visit to Earth.
Agnostics let you go wherever you want,
But Atheists won't let you go anywhere.
Charleton Heston at the end of Planet of the Apes can send everyone to Hell,
But Universalism can send everyone to heaven.
Hindus can have you go back as someone else, better or worse depending on what you did,
But Tommy Vercetti goes in front of the hospital as himself no matter what he did.

Ahem. The whole Christian thing rests upon vicarious activities. Jesus supposedly died for all mankind whether or not they wanted him to , doesn't make them a Christian. Baptism for the dead is the only sensible solution to the fundamentalist baptism interpretation that all men must be born of the water and the spirit. Mormon baptism for the dead is to allow those who have died the option of claiming baptism if they so desire. It no more makes them Mormon than Jesus' death makes everyone a Christian.

If the Catholics were smart they could bless the rain clouds and posthumously sprinkle-baptise all the graveyard inhabitants.

For anyone who thinks baptism is an essential ordinance for salvation how do they propose that it gets offered to all mankind? Mormonism is wacky, it's based in crazy Christianity but it has some elegant logic that ties up loose ends that most Christians leave flapping.

Qcmbr do I remember right you used to defend the Mormons when you first posted here?

I don't see why Jews should get special exemption from wacky, insensitive post mortem Mormon baptisms. If it's inappropriate for Jewish people it's inappropriate for others too.

whats the point of this nonsense ? what exactly does a mormon baptism buy anyone? if the reasoning is god wants this, that makes no sense as god if he did exist would see for himself that the person didnt arrange or want the baptism themselves. are they admitting god is a fool who is easily conned or what ?

I don't understand the point of that baptism. They're already dead, so does that mean that a formerly bad guy, receives a "get out of jail/hell/DMV free card" after the baptism? In the case of a marraige, does he have to now dump his old wife in Heaven and then shack up with the new one or does he get them both?

I guess they think that baptism will help people progress in the next life, just like Catholic prayers for the souls of the dead.

maybe they should stick with improving this life

I don't think Romney's Mormon faith should be the sole issue in the campaign. The beliefs are so far away from what most Christians (if you call them Christians) believe that Romney should be force to state what he does believe. The press, prob. mindful of JFK and Obama in the last campaign, seem to be treading every so lightly. It must be a fine line to balance.

Mormons prove that college education should be such a pressure on the Witnesses. It blows my mind that college grads and business execs still believe the wacky views. Does anyone know how active Romney truly is in the Mormon faith? He doesn't seem to have much passion to me.
