Its talking to JW's recently that made me realise how ignorant to life they are, simple things such as basic history, basic science, even beyond that, simple logic and reasoning re skills they have not developed for themselves.

They simply seem to have lost their ability to think for themselves. It makes me sad.

@Flat_Accet: Very true, but for most it's just laziness; going beyond their beliefs is too much work, so they stick with what they got, what's easy.

Think of the population en-mass; most simply don't want truth they are perfectly happy, ignorantly floating along.

In my experience though, most intelligent individuals (not smart sheeple) aren’t satisfied with this type of complacency.

I suppose I was considered by the JWs to be well educated and well read, I had actually read the Bible, and Bible commentaries for a start, and I certainly questioned a lot over the years, some of it quite vocally.

I realised when I left (in my mind, before I actually walked), that I had HUGE gaps in my knowledge, Critical Thinking Skills were only present to a small degree, the ability to see a dodgy argument was thus reduced, and basic science like Evolution was missing.

I have since redressed a lot of that by reading everything I can to fill the gaps.

I am now much better educated, intelligence is a different thing to mere education I believe, but we do have a lot of intelligent people on here, those who have the wisdom to know how to use their knowledge and skills. We are even blessed with one or two super-brains, I won't name names in case you think you are one ! Tee Hee.

I do not think it is coincidence at all, birds of a feather and all that.

I love being part of this elite club.

I left because I couldn't get the answers to my questions. Too much didn't make sense.

Yet I used to fully believe in it all. It WAS "the Truth". It was my whole life. But I got to my mid-20s and had seen things in JW world that didn't add up.

Eventually I realised it wasn't "the truth" and in all good conscience I couldn't keep believing in doctrines that weren't true.

So I walked away. Not df'd nor da'd. Been out for over 12 years now

I was like a German before and during WW II. You knew something was wrong, but went along regardless. In a ducumentary, a German observed: "We knew about the Jews and the camps, but it was easier swimming with the current than against it." Cognitive dissonance at its best. What shocked me out of it was the UN-NGO thing. Hypocrisy at its best.
