We drive on the proper side of the road in the UK.
It goes back to days of horses and highwaymen. By passing others on your right you could defend yourself with your sword hand.

Do you mean the one getting hitting the face? To be honest I'm not sure, I think it was Zidanne but I've changed my avatar to a pic of me leading a coaching session. You might still be seeing the old one if its loading from cache.
