I remember being in 7th grade and being sent to the library to avoid contamination from all the pagan boys and girls celebrating Christ and Saturn and whatever.
What strikes me funny, though, and I never really thought about this before, was while alone in the library waiting out the festivities, I found a book:
BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS by Kurt Vonnegut
I didn't think it was possible to write a book like that! I was an instant Vonnegut fan.
In the end, the "subversive" ideas in Vonnegut's writing kept my mind open, the gears turning, always questioning what was really real.
I think the trip to the library did more "damage" than the Christmas party!
