I Am Captive

I am captive in both heart and body,
walled in by mahogany panels and
useless fears of too long standing.

Breaking free from confines I've grown
used to would take me from a place of
    uneasy but accustomed safety.

Inadvertently, I throw a vacant glance at
the dirty pane, and my cursory look
becomes a fixed stare that moves through

Glass and focuses on her, the gracious one.
Music - a rhapsody - swells once again in my
heart as the silver moon and I make our vows.

I peer through the bars of a
    cage too long my home.

    Though the door be unlocked,
I sit still in one corner,

Not wishing to upset a balance
    I've grown to accept.

An open door beckons, urging escape from my prison.

I stand at the threshold of promised freedom yet
    cannot cross my mind's blockade.

    I see Spring's newly-leafed oaks, their canopy
    glistening and swaying,

The forsythia and flowering quince all
    abloom, but

Here I shall remain in my chosen
    prison and

Dream of what I love yet fain
    can own.

What is this wall like brick and mortar that separates
your proud heart from mine contrite and broken?

At one time -- I recall so very well -- your soul
and spirit were joined in joy to mine.

You are near me -- how clearly I see you --
yet your eyes are miles away . . .

So, too, your wandering heart that
    has left mine destroyed. . . .

Thank you, cultBgone, and welcome to the forum!

I appreciate your concern, but, for the most part, I have detached from the pain . . . for the most part. . . .

Have a great weekend, you and yours!

Good afternoon, Coco. (paint this yellow, please)

I am waiting for my forsythia to bloom still.

I am glad to see that two years on--- a door has opened in your cell.

I hope we live just long enough.....

to walk into the midst of bright fragrant blooms.
