I like the Jimi Hendrix 'freedom', I blast that frequently.

Any songs that speak to your sense of freedom, now?

Anything by Propagandhi, Rage Against the Machine. Makes me also think of "Russians" by Sting...

    Billy Joel - My Life

Got a call from an old friend, we used to be real close, said he couldn't go on the American way.
Closed the shop, sold the house, bought a ticket to the West Coast,
now he gives them a stand-up routine in L.A.

I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm all right,
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home.
I don't care what you say anymore, this is my life,
go ahead with your own life, and leave me alone.

I never said you had to offer me a second chance, I never said I was a victim of circumstance.
I still belong, don't get me wrong and you can speak your mind but not on my time.

They will tell you you can't sleep alone in a strange place,
then they'll tell you you can't sleep with somebody else.
Oh, But sooner or later you sleep in your own space.
Either way, it's okay to wake up with yourself.

I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm all right,
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home.

This may be a bit whacky to most of you, but for me, it is Peter, Paul and Mary's Leavin On A Jet Plane. The reason is that when I was leaving Vietnam for good (after my second tour) it played on AFVN radio as we were heading out to get on the freedom bird (airplane). I knew that once that plane lifted off I was free and had survived.

Old "Blue eyes" Frank Sinatra's " My Way.

And now the end is near and so I face the final curtain,
My freind I'll say it clear I'll state my case of which Im certain. I've lived a life thats full, I've traveled each and every highway and more much more than this I did it my way.

Regrets I've had a few, but then again too few to mention. I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption. I planned each charted course each careful step on the byway and more much more than this I did it my way.

Yes there were times, Im sure you knew when I bit off more than I can chew, but through it all when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way.

I've loved, I've laughed and cried I had my fill my share of losing. And now as tears subside I find it all so amusing. To think that I did all that and may I say not in a shy way oh no, oh no not me I did it My way.

For what is a MAN? what has he got? if not himself then he has not. to say the things that he truely feels and not the words of one who kneels. The record shows I took the blows and did it my WAAAAAAAYYYY.

    YES IT WAS MY WAY.

My Way is a favourite, but the more angry and bitter version of Sid Vicious.

And then there is Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name of"

Sometimes the line between freedom and rebellion is blurred..

... "fuck you I won't do what you tell me"...
