This afternoon the song Music Box Dancer came on the radio and I was instantly transported back to 1978 when my best jw friend got married.

This was "their" song ,, they are now divorced and one of them left the religion and is remarried.

Another song that makes my skin crawl from a jw standpoint is Mambo # 5.

There was an elder from my old hall, J. Renfroe who ALWAYS was telling the young people what music was acceptable for them to listen to.

And this guy was just so opinionated regarding everything.

So one time at a wedding this song comes on and he starts dancing almost uncontrollably. It was agony to watch, and I ( and many others felt embarrassed for him because of how he was dancing and how his self rightous opinions seemed to be thrown to the wind this evening.

any other examples of music that became tainted from a jw experience ?

There's this modern rock song called "Had Enough". It's an angry song that kinda lets me vent my feelings for the WT. The lyrics say:

Milk it for all it's worth.
Make sure you get there first.
    The apple of your eye.
    The rotten core inside.
    We are all prisoners.
    Things couldn't get much worse.
I've had it up to here, you know your end is near.

You had to have it all,
    Well have you had enough?
    You greedy little bastard,
You will get what you deserve.
When all is said and done,
I will be the one to leave you in the misery and hate what you've become.

Intoxicated eyes, no longer live that life.
You should have learned by now, I'll burn this whole world down.
I need some peace of mind, no fear of what's behind.
You think you've won this fight, you've only lost your mind.

I know nobody on this forum shares my taste in music mostly cause I'm pretty young...(damn kids today with your loud music, hoola hoops and pac-man videogames!) But here's the video anyway

That's one thing I managed to pretty much untaint. Some of the songs remind me of the stagnation that being a witless involved--but, when placed among other contemporary pieces of music (especially the ones I wasn't allowed to listen to as a witless), it isn't anywhere near as bad.

Now, that's more than can be said about any of the Kingdumb maladies.

Yes, The Eagles "Hotel California" lyrics:

'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device'

You can check-out any time you like, But you can never leave!'

    Neon Bible by Arcade Fire.

Vial of hope and a vial of pain
In the light they both looked the same
Poured them out on into the world
On every boy and every girl singing

It's the Neon Bible, the Neon Bible
    Not much chance for survival
If the Neon Bible is right

Take the poison of your age
Don't lick your fingers when you turn the page
What I know is what you know is right
In the city you see only light

It's the Neon Bible, the Neon Bible
    Not much chance for survival
If the Neon Bible is right

Oh god, well, look at you now!
Oh, you lost it, but you don't know how!
In the light of a golden calf
Oh god, I had to laugh!
Take the poison of your age
Don't lick your fingers when you turn the page
It was wrong but you said it was right
In the future I will read at night

In the Neon Bible, the Neon Bible
    Not much chance for survival
If the Neon Bible is true

Hey Fade-Away, I love that song, and I'm probably much older than you!

And the song that reminds me of being a jw is:

It made me think about a two-fold secret that I was keeping. One that I was living in terror of my jw husband, and two, the elders expected me to stay in that distressing situation. I knew that I would have to give up my God and my family and hoped that I would live to tell what was happening to me.

I have a tale to tell
Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall

A man can tell a thousand lies
    I've learned my lesson well
    Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, 'till then
It will burn inside of me

    I know where beauty lives
I've seen it once, I know the warmth she gives
The light that you could never see
It shines inside, you can't take that from me

    2nd Chorus:

The truth is never far behind
    You kept it hidden well
    If I live to tell
    The secret I knew then
Will I ever have the chance again

If I ran away, I'd never have the strength
    To go very far
How could they hear the beating of my heart
    Will it grow cold
The secret that I hide, will I grow old
    How would they hear
    When would they learn
    How would they know

    (2nd chorus)
