My question has always been, "How would anyone know?"

After I left, no one knew anything about me.

    No visits, nothing.

Bet JW's could give blood and never be found out, unless they talked about it.

Given that JWs with hemophilia are permitted to use Factor X - a fractionated component of blood that is derived in concentrated form from the blood of multiple donors - it is sheer hypocrisy not to permit JWs donating blood.

Moreover, it perpetuates the fact that in maintaining their claimed higher standards (compared to all others in the world) JWs get a "free" ride off the sacrifices of non-JWs (including being opposed to joining the military, but "enjoying" the benefits of its protection - but that's another topic!).

post got splimust have hit the wrong key.

are any active JW's blood donors?--or is this a DFing offence?

i ask this because there was a programme on the BBC ( UK )--a few minutes ago.

its not a stupid question--i'm wondering what replies this will receive.

as an aside---i could never understand why some JW's, needing an urgent - life saving transfusion---didnt just go-ahead--then at some future date express remorse & ask for forgiveness. how many elders would then still DF such a percon?

    sorry about that

    Yes, Steve!

I always thought it was hypocritical to accept help from charities but never donate to them.

Donated Blood a Sacrifice?? The "Philippines Daily Express" of April 11, 1977, reported: "Penitents in Negros Occidental have come up with a unique way of gaining absolution for their sins. The Diocesan Lenten Action Committee of Alay Kapwa 77 in the province organized a unique blood donation program that replaced the flogging and the bearing of the cross." It was reported that about a hundred males had "donated blood as sacrifice."

To some it may appear humanitarian for persons to donate blood that will be used for transfusion purposes. Obviously, at least some individuals believe that there is religious merit and spiritual benefit in doing this. However, when viewed from a Biblical standpoint, such a "sacrifice" is of no benefit to the donor and actually violates the law of God.

Wise King Solomon of ancient Israel properly acknowledged in prayer to God that "there is no man that does not sin." (1 Ki. 8:46) And no imperfect and sinful human can provide any "sacrifice" that would absolve him of his own sins or would have this effect on the sins of others. Only the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ has this cleansing power. As the Christian apostle John put matters in writing to fellow believers: "The blood of Jesus . . . cleanses us from all sin."—1 John 1:7; Ps. 49:6-8.

Moreover, God’s law to his people of ancient times specified that blood, when taken from a body, was not to be used for anything, but was to be disposed of. (Deut. 12:16) Later, Christians were specifically required to ‘abstain from blood.’ (Acts 15:28, 29) So, ‘donating blood as sacrifice’ is neither effective nor approved by God.

Occasionally, a doctor will urge a patient to deposit his own blood weeks before surgery (preoperative autologous blood donation, or PAD) so that if the need arises, he could transfuse the patient with his own stored blood. However, such collecting, storing, and transfusing of blood directly contradicts what is said in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Blood is not to be stored; it is to be poured out—returned to God, as it were. Granted, the Mosaic Law is not in force now. Nevertheless, Jehovah’s Witnesses respect the principles God included in it, and they are determined to ‘abstain from blood.’ Hence, we do not donate blood, nor do we store for transfusion our blood that should be ‘poured out.’ That practice conflicts with God’s law.

Thanks for posting the quotes Blondie.

For a legalistic bunch of a**holes, they don't really understand how law works. Once a law, or set of laws, has been repealed, it is only current law that applies, even principles etc. cannot be used from repealed law.

So what was in the Mosaic law has no control over the life of a Christian, only the law of love as established by Christ can have effect.

The decision of the older men in Acts 15 was for them then too, to handle a problem they had then.

Can you imagine Jesus, who shed his blood to save men, so we are told, approving of the death of thousands because the WT is ignorant of scripture, law and much more, and are total strangers to Love and Compassion ?

I guess that a JW donating could, and probably would be DF'd for not towing the party line.

I am a regular donor, and if I am seen, it will be interesting to see what transpires.
