I read an interview with Tom Mabe a couple of days ago. He said he got started on practical jokes when he was 8. He built a snowman next to the street in front of his house. Some teenagers drove by and ran over it. He built another one, kids drove over it again. The third one was built over a fire hydrant.
He said something like, "so there I was, eight years old, the car is wrecked there's water shooting into the air and I'm telling the cop that I had no idea anybody would run over it."
