He was convicted of a crime and put in jail. These women knew what he did to the person when he chopped off her arm. And still they found ways to justify his behavior and continue to follow him.
This is the power of cults.
They can convince ordinary people to believe the extraordinary.

But this begs the point: did they follow him only because it was a cult? I mean, we hear of countless women who befriend, 'fall in love' and marry men who are in prison---some for horrific crimes. I understand that Scott Peterson gets all kinds of marriage proposals from women now that he's on Death Row. The fact that he murdered his pregnant wife and unborn son are just tiny flaws in an otherwise, perfect character.
And Paul Bernardo apparently has a following to of women who treat him like some sort of demi-god.

Oh lordy Some women think they can "love: these men to health. The only reason they did bad things was because they never got the love they needed and these women will show them what real love is.
Let's ignore the fact that it is perfectly safe to love a dangerous man when he is behind bars.

I never heard of this guy until reading this thread, then I found the movie Savage Messiah on Netflix - pretty disturbing stuff. Even more disturbing is what I found when I googled him.
