On JWFacts, there is a quote that points the emphesis that the Watchtower places on certain chapters of The Bible. 5 chapters are mentioned specifically, with Matthew 24 being the dominant occurance. This chapter focuses on "The Last Days" as well as the "Faithful and Discreet Slave."

Does anyone know if there is already an available spreadsheet, or some document that lists the quote occrurances of EACH CHAPTER of The Bible in Watchtower literature?

The statistics would seemed skewed to prove a point to anyone who is not already questioning things. Not that I disagree with what they are getting at, I think more data would be needed to really impact someone who is a logical thinker with this information.

If there isn't a spreadsheet available yet, we could do the project right here if anyone else wants to participate.

I'll do the Revelation chapters and post them here as soon as I have them.

I will be using the 2010 CD Rom.

Come on folks, pick a chapter and do a search. Jude and 3 John are still available!

dpl, i datamined the wt cd a couple of months ago and made such lists... historical trends, etc. the database i stored the data in is a bit defunct (virus attack!) but i could get it up and running again and make specific plots if you are interested.

Don'tplace, i would be willing, but i only have the '09 version. Would that be ok? I'm kind of leery trying to find and download the '10 version, because for some reason, getting the other one downloaded was really time consuming and problematic. Maybe i was using the wrong links, don't know what i'm doing, etc. LOL. I'd love to search the chapters of the Gospel of John. What a great idea!

I did the numbers for Revelaton while eating breakfast. They're in a .txt file because I obviously hadn't had time to create an Excel sheet with formulas or anything at this point.

BUT, if Bohm has the data already, no sense reinventing the wheel, so to speak.

Bohm, could you show a list of the Bible chapters ranked from most-cited to least-cited, with some relative comparison like %?

I think it would be interesting to see the whole Bible this way, then OT and NT separately also.

If that is going to be a lot of work, we can push on with making a new spreadsheet based on the work of volunteers in this thread. Let us know please.

A google shared spreadsheet might work well..

    @bohm,

Having it running again would be awesome if you are up for the task!

Thanks for offering! If not, I will go back to the original plan, it just seemed so tedious I thought I would ask for some help.

sorry about the delay. i am dealing with a code brown situation and didnt get any sleep the past night, and since its a "10 minutes tops" problem i am sure it will take me 2 hours :-).

ill try to give it a spin tomorrow. if anyone know sql i can NOT send him/her the database dump for leagal reasons. so i WONT put them on a public file server because it would violate the DMCA and god knows what laws.

hello. so i think i got the database to work. i think i have all citations in the watchtower from about 1950 to around 2005, it run in at around 40'000 distinct bible citations which are cited a total of 600'000 times. which stats are we interested in exactly?

to answer DPLs question, for eg. matthew and genesis, this is what it looks like:

    +---------+---------+------------+

    | book | chapter | sum(count) |

    +---------+---------+------------+

    | genesis | 1 | 264 |

    | genesis | 2 | 131 |

    | genesis | 3 | 198 |

    | genesis | 4 | 168 |

    | genesis | 5 | 172 |

    | genesis | 6 | 100 |

    | genesis | 7 | 62 |

    | genesis | 8 | 45 |

    | genesis | 9 | 154 |

    | genesis | 10 | 219 |

    | genesis | 11 | 238 |

    | genesis | 12 | 95 |

    | genesis | 13 | 45 |

    | genesis | 14 | 288 |

    | genesis | 15 | 145 |

    | genesis | 16 | 79 |

    | genesis | 17 | 98 |

    | genesis | 18 | 108 |

    | genesis | 19 | 122 |

    | genesis | 20 | 84 |

    | genesis | 21 | 105 |

    | genesis | 22 | 144 |

    | genesis | 23 | 149 |

    | genesis | 24 | 239 |

    | genesis | 25 | 197 |

    | genesis | 26 | 154 |

    | genesis | 27 | 116 |

    | genesis | 28 | 120 |

    | genesis | 29 | 85 |

    | genesis | 30 | 79 |

    | genesis | 31 | 150 |

    | genesis | 32 | 113 |

    | genesis | 33 | 58 |

    | genesis | 34 | 168 |

    | genesis | 35 | 110 |

    | genesis | 36 | 211 |

    | genesis | 37 | 127 |

    | genesis | 38 | 74 |

    | genesis | 39 | 30 |

    | genesis | 40 | 72 |

    | genesis | 41 | 83 |

    | genesis | 42 | 42 |

    | genesis | 43 | 29 |

    | genesis | 44 | 12 |

    | genesis | 45 | 31 |

    | genesis | 46 | 122 |

    | genesis | 47 | 49 |

    | genesis | 48 | 72 |

    | genesis | 49 | 138 |

    | genesis | 50 | 39 |

    +---------+---------+------------+

while for matthew it is like this:

    +---------+---------+------------+

    | book | chapter | sum(count) |

    +---------+---------+------------+

    | matthew | 1 | 1297 |

    | matthew | 2 | 1137 |

    | matthew | 3 | 1090 |

    | matthew | 4 | 2768 |

    | matthew | 5 | 3453 |

    | matthew | 6 | 4867 |

    | matthew | 7 | 2209 |

    | matthew | 8 | 579 |

    | matthew | 9 | 1059 |

    | matthew | 10 | 2785 |

    | matthew | 11 | 1296 |

    | matthew | 12 | 1526 |

    | matthew | 13 | 3588 |

    | matthew | 14 | 723 |

    | matthew | 15 | 2024 |

    | matthew | 16 | 1086 |

    | matthew | 17 | 707 |

    | matthew | 18 | 1580 |

    | matthew | 19 | 1585 |

    | matthew | 20 | 1101 |

    | matthew | 21 | 1140 |

    | matthew | 22 | 1932 |

    | matthew | 23 | 3385 |

    | matthew | 24 | 12765 |

    | matthew | 25 | 5921 |

    | matthew | 26 | 2311 |

    | matthew | 27 | 995 |

    | matthew | 28 | 2375 |

    +---------+---------+------------+

    notice that a lot of stuff hide between the numbers since i sum over verses -- for example, take matthew 28 in details: +---------+---------+------------+ | book | chapter | sum(count) | +---------+---------+------------+ | matthew | 28 | 26 | | matthew | 28 | 24 | | matthew | 28 | 24 | | matthew | 28 | 22 | | matthew | 28 | 20 | | matthew | 28 | 22 | | matthew | 28 | 20 | | matthew | 28 | 16 | | matthew | 28 | 27 | | matthew | 28 | 22 | | matthew | 28 | 10 | | matthew | 28 | 16 | | matthew | 28 | 16 | | matthew | 28 | 15 | | matthew | 28 | 15 | | matthew | 28 | 30 | | matthew | 28 | 27 | | matthew | 28 | 151 | | matthew | 28 | 1000 | | matthew | 28 | 872 | +---------+---------+------------+ what is seen here is basically 50 years of "lets read the entire bible" study articles and a lot of preaching!
