Remember this well hacked scripture? A JW favourite. Here’s how I think it applies to them.

But know this, that in the last days (of the WTS?) critical times hard to deal with will be here

High Attrition of membership, poor cashflow, true history exposed by internet and apostates everywhere

For men will be lovers of themselves

The Governing body love themselves, Elders love themselves, Pioneers love themselves and the R and File are sooooo much better than worldly people.

    Lovers of money,

The society loves money. It is always asking for more. It has billions tied up in real estate which has been develop for free by the Rank and File.

    Self-assuming,

We are God’s sole channel of communication to people on Earth. That is the absolute self assuming statement.

    Haughty,

The GB are the most haughty people on Earth. They have been wrong on so occasions yet they never allow anyone to criticise, they say to criticise them is in effect criticising god.

    Blasphemers,

The claim that they are God’s spokesmen and that Christ is not the mediator for non-annointed witnesses is blasphemy (OK I’m an atheist but am looking at this from a “Christian” POV)

    Disobedient to parents,

JW kids with an anti JW parent will be encouraged to disobey that parent when it comes to meeting attendance, Field service and other “theocratic activities”

    Unthankful

Every congregation has a sponger who expects lifts to meetings and service and never shows any gratitude (Pauline the frog!)

    Disloyal

Close friends and family are expected to spy on and report sins to the elders.

    Having no natural affection,

Shunning of family members because they no are JW’s demonstrates this perfectly.

    Not open to any agreement,

We’re right you’re wrong and you will die a horrible death at Armageddon for being wrong.

    Slanderers,

Anyone who doesn’t agree with them is slandered, all other religions, politicians, commercial organisations, apostates

    Without self-control,

Who needs self control when you can control 7 million people by means of a magazine?

    Fierce,

Definition of fierce Having or displaying an intense or ferocious aggressiveness

Are JW’s ever ferociously aggressive – probably not, but given half the chance they would be to apostates and they can’t wait for Jehooba to to act in fierce way to everyone that is not a JW.

    Without love of goodness,

The abhorrence to charitable giving, disingenuous attitude to other faiths and hatred of those who have left the org shows they do not love goodness.

    Betrayers

What happened to nugget and I was an act of betrayal and that is played out in the org on a regular basis

    Headstrong ,

Meaning self-willed and obstinate – a characteristic demonstrated f rom members of the GB down to the lowliest member. You show them clear evidence of their deceit, lies and flip flops and they will obstinately refute it all.

    Puffed up [with pride],

A condition nurtured by positions such as Pioneer, Ministerial Servant, Elder etc. Ever tried counselling CO?

Lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God,

The JW’s pleasure is in doing futile tasks. They are so busy looking busy that they fail to see what Christianity is about. They neglect their fellow man and show a complete lack of love and compassion, which is what God is supposed to promote.

    Having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power;

What good do they actually do? How do they help society. Religion should be used for the betterment of people – JW’s work for the detriment of society. (mind you the same could be said of a lot of religions)

I love the way you expose these Pharisees with their own writings.

Having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power

I am convinced that the high majority of born-in JW does not really believe in God. If you would take the organization away, their entire belief system also disappears. A CO once made a talk to explain the importancy of preaching from door to door. The conclusion was: if you take field service away, everything else that a JW does is absolutely a waste of time and energy. As preaching the way JW do it is not a requirement for salvation, why do it? If you think about it, what part of being a JW could be classified as worshipping of God? 0-5% at most. Then Catholics do even better.

Added to this that 2Tim was a personal letter from Paul to Timothy about a time period of their own lives. The wording is very similar to a few verses in Romans 1, Paul stating clearly it was going on at his present time, 2000 years ago. There is no reason whatsoever to believe in 2nd fulfillment.

Verse 6 of that same chapter is a doozy too.

    6. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires. (New International Version)

Every Saturday, JWs are knocking on doors looking for any opening to gain a new recruit. The educated and people with experience don't usually allow themselves to get taken in by a JW with a good presentation. The poor, and uneducated, and those with emotional problems on the other hand, are prone to exploitation.

"Having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power" is very applicable to Jehovah's Witnesses. The routinely deny the power of God to do anything meaningful in peoples lives. To them the Holy Spirit is incapable of doing anything but directing JW's to that last house on the corner where the person is praying to find the true religion.

To what Hoffnung said the writer of 2 Timothy was definitely applying that to his day, not some future time. There is a nearly identical list that Paul gives in his letter to the Romans which even more clearly pinpoints that he was reflecting on the world as he knew it.
