VoidEater, .......(picking myself up off the floor).......thank you for opening up this subject, in a way that I am woefully lacking.

Your sensiblity & vulnerability here, omg ...I just want to hold your hand & be your friend!

Terrible to lose your friends that way. Thanks for the link. You know, never in my long life had I ever heard about aids. Not until about 1984. Reading these links made me think what are the chances this just happened 'naturally' or that it was here all along ... hmmm, looks more like something a maniac concocted out of a LAB! From the bottom of my heart, so love to hear from you. ...clarity

Lion Cask, wow, what woman doesn't love an unpretentious man. Your wife is a 'lucky' woman I think!

both contributed to my sense of compassion for my fellow human beings, even those whose values do not mesh entirely with my own
    .

Thanks so much for your lovely comment and generousity to all, LC.

Oh God, did I cry...throughout the whole movie! The most obvious reason was because one of my best friends was HIV positive, and I knew it was only a matter of time before he would be gone. But underneath, I think the pain of being shunned and maligned as a df'd jw bubbled to the surface. And the other factor was realizing that life is sill worth living, even in terrible circumstances. The scene where Tom Hanks was listening to opera still tears me up:

and so does the end of the movie.
