This is what's embarrassing about the religion. Not so much that they have pedophiles, murderers, and even baby eaters in their membership. It's what they do when it comes to light that they have such a problem. Instead of coming clean about that someone killed their parents or killed and ate a baby while in good standing (or doing something, perhaps disfellowshipping them and blowing them in to the secular authorities as soon as they realized it went on), they go and hide the problem. To me, that is a bigger embarrassment to the religion than the killers.
If someone murders their parents, that looks bad to that person. If someone murders their parents and then the religion hides the fact to protect its own religion, it looks bad for the religion. They are, effectively, condoning murdering parents and killing and eating babies when they do all they can to hide the problems from the public instead of blowing them in.
