Need to Get Away - Roadtrip Suggestions

So it's really happened... All of my friends have been shunning me for a few months now and while it has saddened me deeply, I've been able to endure it. But just this weekend my own mother told me that she messed up with me and that I am going to die because I am speaking against the organization... That's a tough pill to swallow.

I was naive like many others in the beginning. I thought if I came out the right way, for moral and conscientious reasons, that maybe.... just maybe they would respect my decision. But as I just mentioned, I've now officially lost my entire family and all of my friends.

Anyway, needless to say... I'd like to get away from it all for a few days. I live near Philadelphia and am thinking about taking a short (3 or 4 day roadtrip). I don't feel like flying right now... and I'm thinking about taking the trip this weekend.

    Any suggestions??

Depends on what you like; I've heard the Mercer Museum is awesome, never been - it's in Doylestown, PA. If you've already been, let me know if it's as good as it sounds! http://www.mercermuseum.org/

How far do you plan on driving? The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C. is awesome - haven't been in the winter, but I am sure it is just as lovely as in the summertime. Need two days to see the whole estate...not sure how far that is from where you are. The whole Adirondack area - Lake Placid area is also awesome, Ausable Chasm is a must see - not sure if it is open this time of year; I haven't been to Finger Lakes area but hear it is amazing. http://www.biltmore.com/

Really enjoyed the Hammond Castle in New Hampshire. http://www.hammondcastle.org/common/index.php?com=HAMM&div=AA&nav=AA&page=A91

Just throwing stuff out there - you could even try Niagara Falls in the winter - beautiful light display - lots to see and do...about 10 hours drive...

Sorry, just reread your post - 3 or 4 days; ok, maybe some of those places are too far for just a weekend...maybe you can take a week or more! Make it worthwhile; really GET AWAY.

Before I caught on to the length of your trip I was going to suggest a road trip catching road side attractions. But that would take a larger commitment than you've got.

Hubby and I have taken a few three day trips this year. We've driven to Jasper and will soon spend a few days at West Edmonton Mall.

Now waitaminute. Here's something interesting. A roadside excursion through Pennsylvania, including the mysterious Space Acorn.

Wow .. Philly in the wintertime ... and only 3-4 days ... not enough time to go South for warmer weather.

I guess the obvious ones near to home are:

The Poconos if you like to ski or want to spend the time in one of those heart-shaped jacuzzi's in a honeymoon suite ...

New York City if you want the theatre, Soho, Chinatown, Times Square ... etc

Jersey Shore if you want cold wind and ice ...

Atlantic City if you're in a generous mood and wish to donate your money to the casinos ...

Camden NJ if you owe more on your car than what it's worth and want to collect on the insurance ...

Washinton DC if you like to see where our tax money goes ...

Baltimore MD if you like to see where our tax money should go ...

Ocean City MD if you want an ocean-view and don't want to worry about mosquitoes and green heads ...

Centralia PA if you want to create a photo album of smoking underground coal fires ...

Tamaqua PA if you want to pretend you are on location for filming the movie Deliverance ...

Williamsport PA if you want to spend the time in a bar talking about little league baseball ...

Pittsburgh PA if you want to spend the time in a bar talking about the Pirates who play like little league ...

Italian Market if you want to get a Cheese Steak at Pats and stand around a burning barrel to keep warm ...

NJ Pine Barrens if you want want to generate sightings of the Jersey Devil by getting a pair of reflective goggles, a cape and running across a highway at night.

Just a few ideas. Hope this helps.
